Moving & Living - Anguilla - Complete Guide
Move to Anguilla through entry clearance, work and residence procedures, then arrange schooling, banking, housing, healthcare, utilities and daily transport.
A move to Anguilla is shaped by the place your job or household connection will be based. The Valley puts administrative errands into the plan; a West End workplace, a Blowing Point connection or an eastern village changes the daily journey. Compare those routes with the home’s water, power and transport arrangements before choosing an address.
These fourteen stages connect visitor clearance with the separate permission needed to live, work or study, then explain the practical tasks that make the household operational. They use the current eVisa service, local institutions and provider applications, while keeping historical fees and photographs clearly dated. Education, retirement and pet preparations are optional parts of the journey.

Follow your moving journey
Start at step 1, or jump to the task you are working on.
01Choose an area around work, school and ordinary errands
Start with the job or household connection that makes the move possible. The Valley is a practical point of reference for administration and services; West End, Sandy Ground, Blowing Point and Island Harbour create different journeys. An attractive beach address does not establish that it works for a school run, an early shift and a medical appointment.
| Area to investigate | Useful question | Test before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| The Valley and nearby neighbourhoods | Can the household combine its regular services with the workplace? | The exact street, parking and route to school. |
| West End | Is the job or main household activity in this part of the island? | Travel at the actual shift's start and finish. |
| Sandy Ground or Blowing Point | Does the address serve work or regular harbour connections? | Noise, traffic and the final access to the home. |
| Island Harbour or eastern villages | Does the quieter setting fit the employer or family arrangements? | Shopping, appointments and an alternative transport plan. |

- Map the actual workplace, receiving school and regular care. Confirm whether the employer offers transport.
- Compare two areas using similar properties and the same room and furnishing requirements.
- Inspect the home and its access, including drainage, water arrangements and electricity. Ask about any shared-service charge.
- Keep temporary accommodation available for viewings and the gap before the permanent lease begins.
The photographs are dated views of particular places, not evidence of current rental availability. Evaluate the present-day building and journey directly.
02Resolve visitor clearance and the actual permission to move
Start with the official eVisa portal and its nationality table. The portal says that holders of a valid visa or residence permit for the UK, US or Canada do not need to apply for an Anguilla visitor visa. Establish that the document you intend to rely on fits the exemption; it does not answer the separate question of permission to live or work on the island.
- Check the passport nationality and any qualifying exemption. Include transit through Saint Martin, Sint Maarten or another connection in your document assessment; Anguilla clearance does not settle that jurisdiction's requirements.
- If required, use the official electronic application and provide the requested supporting evidence and English translations. Retain the application number for correspondence.
- Budget the published visa charge and processing fee. At the 13 October 2026 review, the portal lists US$140 for single entry and US$250 for multiple entry, with a separate non-refundable US$20 application-processing fee.
- Allow time around the actual decision. The portal lists 15–20 business days and warns of delays, so do not treat that range as a promised travel date.
- Carry the approved clearance and supporting documents for entry inspection. Confirm the authorised stay and any conditions given by the officer.
The electronic application explicitly warns that visitor admission does not permit business or employment without the requisite permit or pass. For a move based on employment, family or another eligible ground, use the government immigration forms and obtain the appropriate residence or work procedure. Owning a home or having a foreign employer does not by itself establish the required permission.
If your intended route is investment-based residence, the government links Select Anguilla's programme. Obtain the exact category, financial conditions and approval process before transferring funds. Marketing descriptions of tax efficiency or a later citizenship pathway are not a guarantee of your tax position or nationality outcome.
03Have the employer prepare the permit and confirm the allowed activity
Anguilla's 2023 Work Permit Regulations distinguish general, temporary and self-employment permits, with skill categories and fees assessed for the particular work. The government's published Labour procedure starts with an advertised vacancy and an employer-supported application. Ask the Department which current category and checklist apply before the employer fixes an arrival or start date.
- Obtain the offer, duties, workplace, salary, hours and any housing or insurance benefit in writing.
- Assign responsibility for the advertisement and employer documents. The published dossier includes social-security, business-licence and tax-clearance evidence.
- Prepare the applicant records the Department specifies: identity and birth records, police history, certified qualifications, medical evidence and photographs. Establish the accepted age and certification of each record before ordering it.
- Obtain the applicable fee assessment and decision. Keep the permit and the employment agreement together.
- Complete Immigration's required endorsement or residence action and confirm that the permission covers the activity before work begins.
The older Labour service page quotes an EC$100 processing charge, but the occupation-specific amount and any current amendment must be confirmed with the Department. No universal total is presented here. For professional work, resolve any separate practice registration with the appropriate authority.
If earning from overseas clients, describe the actual work and physical location to Immigration and Labour. Do not assume a visitor eVisa or foreign company removes the need for permission. A business licence, work authorisation and residence decision each address a different part of the proposed activity.
04Build a household budget that includes taxes and arrival costs
Keep Eastern Caribbean dollars and US dollars clearly labelled in every quote. A bank's US-dollar account, an EC-dollar school charge and a rental offer need separate entries; a bare dollar symbol is not enough to make the comparison. Obtain the exchange treatment for the actual payment before agreeing an overseas transfer.
| Expense | Recurring evidence | Initial funds to separate |
|---|---|---|
| Home | Selected property's rent, furnishings and included bills. | First rent, agreed deposit and any disclosed service fee. |
| Electricity and water | The property's recent bills and expected usage. | Supplier deposit, transfer or new connection costs. |
| School and healthcare | Actual tuition assessment and insurance quote. | Application, materials, registration and medical reserve. |
| Transport and communication | Actual car or taxi costs and operator plan. | Arrival journey, device or equipment and vehicle arrangements. |
| Immigration and belongings | Renewal and planned travel. | Application, authentication, shipment and customs treatment. |
Hypothetical housing calculation: if rent were US$1,200 monthly and an agreed refundable deposit were one month, first rent plus deposit would require US$2,400. Twelve months of that hypothetical rent would total US$14,400. These numbers demonstrate the calculation; they are not a verified listing, national average or statutory deposit rule. Add the actual utility, transport and household costs separately.
Anguilla's Inland Revenue consumer brochure identifies a standard GST rate of 13%, with zero-rated and exempt categories. Read the actual invoice and ask whether a quote includes the applicable tax rather than adding 13% to every item indiscriminately. The IRD online portal covers GST, business licences, property tax and the Universal Social Levy. Ask payroll which deductions apply to employment and obtain the relevant registration if you will operate a business.
Have an adviser consider both Anguilla and the country you are leaving. A residence stamp or investment programme does not itself establish that all foreign tax obligations have ended. Keep travel dates, salary records, invoices and pension statements so the actual position can be assessed.
05Coordinate school or college acceptance with immigration
For a child joining school, the government's application for children to reside and attend school asks about the parent's immigration position and the intended school. Treat the school place and the child's residence as connected tasks with separate decisions. Ask the receiving school to identify the year group, supporting records and practical journey before committing to a home around a presumed place.
- Obtain the child's previous reports, identity and guardianship evidence, then ask the receiving school for its registration list and any placement assessment.
- Complete the residence-and-school application with the actual parent or guardian status. Ask Immigration which supporting approvals are needed and keep the outcome.
- Confirm the school acceptance and price uniforms, materials, meals and transport separately.
- Record the daily schedule and the contacts for absence, emergencies and academic follow-up.
For Anguilla Community College, use the institution's current application instructions. Select the programme or short course, provide the relevant records, arrange payment and obtain confirmation before course registration. Its published process uses online payments and states that cash is not accepted. The general application page lists a non-refundable EC$54 application fee; programme-specific charges and requirements still need an individual assessment.
ACC lists academic certificates or transcripts, references and programme-dependent supporting documents. Ask admissions how the nationality and status fields apply to a foreign newcomer, rather than assuming every applicant has a Belonger certificate. Obtain the applicable tuition assessment and the programme's actual teaching location and schedule.
The official higher-education permit guidance describes a student-permit process and separate approval for paid student work involving the institution and proposed employer. Its printed fee guidance is historical, so this guide does not present it as a current charge. Obtain Immigration's current procedure for the particular programme; admission alone is not permission to settle or work.
06Assess the retired-person residence claim and long-term needs
The official residence-stamp form includes retired applicants owning or leasing property. Its ownership section asks for an Alien Land Holding Licence, while the lease section asks for the owner and lease period. This is a documented application claim, not a promise that buying or renting automatically grants residence.
- Ask Immigration for the current eligibility, supporting evidence and fees for your retired-person circumstances.
- If purchasing, obtain legal advice on the required landholding permission and transaction before committing funds. If leasing, establish the lease evidence Immigration will accept.
- Document pension and other income, and ask the bank how those payments will be received.
- Price insurance and ongoing care, including any off-island referral, against the actual medical history.
- Have an adviser consider the departure country's tax rules as well as Anguilla obligations.
For investment-based residence, obtain the separate programme's approval criteria and financial assessment through the government-linked service. Keep refundable assets, non-refundable charges and money available for ordinary living distinct. A later nationality or tax outcome should be assessed separately rather than assumed from a residence proposal.
07Prepare the document folder, shipment and pet application
Order records against the actual application checklist and timetable. A document accepted for an eVisa may not be sufficient for a work permit, residence stamp or school file. Maintain a table showing the issuing authority, translation, certification, accepted validity and person responsible for each item.
- Prepare passports and civil-status evidence for each household member. Obtain police, medical and qualification records as requested by the applicable authority.
- Arrange English translations where required and keep certification with the record it belongs to.
- Give the mover a numbered inventory distinguishing ordinary furniture from vehicles, food, plant material, medicines and high-value items. Obtain customs and destination-delivery costs as part of the quote.
- Keep the original application records, prescriptions and first weeks' essentials outside the removal shipment.
Use IRD's import-GST guidance when asking Customs about the shipment. It explains that private individuals can owe GST on taxable imports; foreign residence or a moving inventory does not establish an exemption. Obtain the specific treatment for the goods and any relief before dispatch rather than assuming everything enters duty-free.
If a pet is moving
Use the Department of Natural Resources Livestock service to obtain its pet-import application and written conditions for the species, origin and route. Supply those instructions to the veterinarian and confirm the permit, certificates and timing before booking transport. Separately check the carrier and transit-country rules, including any connection through another island. The precise species-specific testing and charge were not verified here; obtain them from the responsible unit rather than applying an invented universal checklist.
08Make the initial address and appointments usable
Arrange the host or employer contact before departure, including the pickup point and accommodation access. If arriving by ferry, verify which port and service you will use and the documents required for the transit jurisdiction. Keep the initial address and contact details available offline.

- Complete entry inspection and record the authorised stay and any conditions. Keep the clearance and evidence of admission.
- Inspect the initial accommodation and confirm the checkout date. Obtain the occupancy evidence promised for administrative use.
- Activate a local phone and test the journey to work, school or the first appointment.
- Confirm the Labour and Immigration follow-up with the coordinating employer or adviser. Add those dates to the permission's expiry reminders.
Extend the temporary booking before it expires if the permanent home is delayed. Ask Immigration how to update an address change and retain the acknowledgement. The historical terminal photograph does not establish the current facilities or departure schedule.
09Complete residence endorsement and payroll registrations
Use the government's current immigration forms directory for residence stamps and extensions. The residence-stamp application asks applicants to identify the basis, including a work permit or qualifying family relationship. Provide the basis that actually applies and the supporting originals requested by Immigration.
- Confirm the residence or endorsement process associated with the approved work or other category. Present the passport, decision, photographs and other records specified by the office.
- Check the issued stamp or document for name, dates and conditions. Ask which action is needed for accompanying family members and whether their status permits employment.
- Complete Social Security Board employee registration with the employee form, passport, birth or marriage record and any relevant supporting evidence. Have payroll confirm registration and applicable levy deductions. Keep the identifying number and first payslip together.
- If you will operate a business, use IRD's service to establish the relevant business licence, taxpayer registration and returns before trading.
- Record renewal dates and obtain the current extension or renewal list while permission remains valid.
Visitor extension, a residence stamp and permanent residence are separate procedures. This guide does not quote an old extension charge as a current fee or treat a visitor extension as authority to start work. Obtain the fee and conditions for the actual action from Immigration.
10Prepare the bank file and choose the account currency
National Commercial Bank of Anguilla offers demand-deposit accounts in Eastern Caribbean dollars and US dollars. Choose according to the salary, rent and bills you will actually pay rather than assuming one currency removes conversion costs. Ask payroll which account details it requires before submitting them.
- Use the bank's individual application and identify your actual resident or non-resident position. A non-resident is asked to explain the reason for opening the account.
- Prepare the published identity and address evidence, with the bank and personal references requested for the selected account. Obtain the bank's current requirements for source of income and the funds you will deposit.
- Confirm opening funding, minimum balance, service charges, card access and overseas transfer costs with the bank. The product page lists US$100 or EC$100 opening funding; ask how its separate balance requirements and fee conditions apply to your chosen currency.
- Submit the complete file and retain the bank's decision and account details. Test access and an ordinary payment before relying on the account for first rent or payroll.
NCBA's digital KYC self-update is described as a service for account holders updating their information. It requests a valid passport, address evidence and relevant income records; do not mistake an update session for approval of a new account. Keep the old account operational while final bills and pending payments in the departure country are being settled.
11Inspect the home and define the lease and deposits
Compare the full payment in the stated currency. A furnished holiday property and a long-term home can differ in term, utility inclusion, maintenance and notice. Ask the owner which arrangement is being offered and obtain the draft agreement before sending an advance.
- Verify the owner's or representative's authority and the payment recipient. Inspect the rooms, roof, ventilation, water supply and electrical equipment.
- Record furniture, appliances and defects with dated photographs. Establish which repairs must be completed before handover.
- Agree rent, payment period, deposit, included bills, shared charges, permitted occupants, pets and notice in writing.
- Ask for the address evidence needed for residence and banking. Resolve any difference between the actual property and the wording on the paperwork.
- At handover, count keys, record meter readings and sign the inventory. Obtain receipts identifying the purpose of every payment.
No universal deposit cap, standard advance period or current national rental average was established for this guide. Use the selected property's written offer and obtain local advice on unclear obligations. Keep the deposit's return conditions separate from prepaid rent.
12Establish care and insurance before the existing cover ends
Plan care around the treatment the household needs, not an assumption that a British overseas territory provides the same entitlement as the UK. The UK government's current Anguilla assistance page lists Princess Alexandra Hospital at +1 264 497 2551 and emergency services at 911. Use the hospital or Health Authority to establish routine registration, appointment and billing arrangements for your own status.
- Obtain the employer's medical benefit and insurer terms in writing. Ask whether local providers bill directly, what you must pay first and how a claim is made.
- List prescriptions, specialist follow-up and planned treatment. Contact the appropriate provider before the existing medicine supply or cover runs out.
- Price any medical-evacuation or off-island treatment cover separately. Confirm authorisation, transport, accompanying-person and pre-existing-condition terms.
- Bring a concise medical history and relevant records to the first appointment, and retain invoices and referral documents for the insurer.
The exact consultation charges and assistance eligibility for every newcomer category were not verified. Resolve that precise billing question with the provider and insurer before relying on coverage. Keep the emergency contact and insurer's assistance number accessible to another household member.
13Arrange a local connection and a realistic daily journey
Use Flow Anguilla’s mobile service directory to compare prepaid and postpaid options, then test the service at the home and workplace before choosing a long contract. Ask the store what identity is required for SIM registration, check handset compatibility and test coverage. Record the actual package price, validity and domestic or roaming allowance; this guide does not supply an unverified island-wide mobile tariff.
- Activate the chosen connection and test calls and messages. Keep the top-up or bill-payment procedure available.
- For home internet, obtain a quote for the actual building and confirm equipment, installation and contract terms.
- Ask the employer about a shuttle or other transport benefit, then test the route at the hours you will use it.
- If renting a car initially, agree insurance, deposit, fuel and driver conditions with the operator before collecting it.
The official Tourist Board transport page states that driving is on the left and describes a temporary Anguillian licence for car rental. It lists US$25 for a three-month licence, alongside the visitor's valid driving licence. Confirm the applicable resident licensing or conversion procedure for a long-term move rather than relying indefinitely on a temporary tourist arrangement.
For taxis, request the fare for the actual journey and agree pickup and return arrangements. For inter-island travel, use the operator's current schedule and keep time for immigration and a missed connection. A transport photograph or a general island drive-time estimate is not a timetable for your daily shift.
Set up the electricity and water after the lease
Begin by asking the owner whether the home already has an active supply and who will hold the account. A change of holder and a new connection are different jobs. Confirm the property's arrangement with ANGLEC before paying for work or assuming that the old account transfers automatically.
- Obtain the meter and account details from the owner, note readings at handover and agree responsibility for any previous balance.
- For a new connection, use ANGLEC's consumer application. It requests identification, the service location, ownership or authorisation evidence, parcel information and a load estimate. If renting, identify the owner as the form requires.
- Obtain the work estimate and pay through the supplier's documented process. Its form requires the government's electrical inspection certificate before final connection; an estimate date is not a guaranteed connection date.
- For an existing account, ask customer service for the current transfer documents and deposit. Retain the request and payment evidence.
- Set up bill access through the supplier's online account service and compare the first bill with the start date and readings.
Determine water arrangements separately with the owner: ask how the home is supplied, which charges are shared and who maintains any storage or pumping equipment. Inspect those arrangements as part of the rental decision rather than discovering the cost after moving in.
14Create an ordinary week and close out the first month
Build the week around work, school, shopping and appointments. Pick a practical shopping route and review the first bills against the agreements. Keep the household's status and expiry records in one calendar so that a school form or renewal does not remain buried in messages.

- Check that every person has the permission needed for residence, work or study.
- Confirm that the first salary or pension transfer reaches the intended account and compare the net amount with the budget.
- Keep the lease, inventory and utility records together and resolve any unexpected charge.
- Complete school follow-up, medical arrangements and the approved pet clearance if applicable.
- Test the transport alternative for a late shift or changed appointment.
- Replace spending estimates with actual amounts and keep a reserve for unfinished tasks.
Explore local history through places such as Wallblake House and find a regular activity through the school, workplace or community that fits a normal week. Coastal outings can be part of that routine, but arrange the current operator and weather conditions rather than relying on a historical beach scene.

At the end of the month, identify each unfinished administrative task, who will complete it and its due date. Keep permission changes and renewals distinct from social plans so that the household's ordinary life rests on completed paperwork.
