Start with the official application service
Albania’s Foreign Ministry has warned that a website imitating its electronic visa service is unauthorised. Its 5 April 2026 clarification identifies e-visa.al as the only official Albanian electronic visa application website. This is a current practical guide to that warning and the application rules, rather than a claim that the warning was newly issued today.
The clarification matters because a familiar-looking page or a paid intermediary’s confirmation is not an Albanian visa. The ministry says travellers should rely exclusively on official application and information sources and describes enforcement measures against illegal activity. Use the linked ministry notice to establish the genuine service before entering passport information or following payment instructions. Do not infer approval merely from having paid somebody to prepare an application.
Check whether a visa application is actually required
The ministry’s current visa-regime guidance recognises certain previously used multiple-entry Schengen visas, and specified valid visas or residence permissions from the EU, United States or United Kingdom. The conditions include document validity and, for the relevant visa exemptions, previous use. It expressly excludes Iranian nationals from those document-based exemptions.
The same guidance requires travellers relying on these permissions to leave Albania no later than three days before the underlying document expires. It separately recognises a ten-year UAE residence permit only where at least one year remains at entry. Saudi and Qatari nationals have a tourism-only exemption from 15 April through 31 December 2026. These are different conditions, not interchangeable alternatives for every passport holder.
Use the ministry’s nationality and visa-fee selector alongside this guidance to identify the passport category, application route and charge. Someone with two nationalities should check the passport that will actually be used, rather than rely on an exemption associated with a different document.
An application must match the travel passport and requested purpose
The official application instructions require the electronic application to be completed while the applicant is outside Albania. A dual national must select the nationality of the travel passport; a mismatch between the registered document country and the document used for travel invalidates the e-visa. Uploaded documents must meet the stated language, certification and scanning requirements.
The portal requires applications within 90 days of intended travel. It describes assessment after payment as normally taking fifteen working days, potentially thirty in exceptional cases, while also warning applicants to allow sufficient time. These are working days rather than an assurance of immediate issue. Prepare the purpose-specific checklist before submitting instead of treating the online form as the entire evidential requirement.
Respond to payment and correction requests through the account
The portal’s payment notice instructs the applicant to upload the bank receipt within fifteen days and identify the applicant and visa application code. Its instructions warn that non-payment leads to refusal. Use the account’s actual payment request and required receipt format rather than a screenshot or an intermediary’s assertion that a transfer was made.
Where documents need correction, the portal describes a notification directing the applicant to the application comments and requested upload. The example notice warns of refusal if requested corrections are not completed within fifteen days. Check the deadline in the actual notification and keep the application code so progress can be tracked. A correction request is not an approval and should not be mistaken for a fresh application requirement.
Use official verification rather than requesting an embassy stamp
The Albanian Embassy in the United Kingdom’s frequently asked questions says it does not verify or legalise visas or e-visas. It directs readers to the official e-visa verification service and states that documents obtained through unlicensed intermediaries are not recognised. Use that answer to distinguish official system verification from a supposed embassy authentication service offered by a third party.
For an illustrative traveller receiving a visa PDF from an intermediary, the next action is to verify the issued permission through the official service and compare it with the passport and journey. The embassy FAQ also addresses residence permissions undergoing renewal; pending renewal should not simply be equated with the valid document required for an exemption. Resolve that situation before travel. Visa issuance remains separate from border admission, and the reviewed guidance cannot guarantee entry or an individual completion date.
