Renewal depends on the type of work permission
Foreign employees in Algeria should check the expiry of their work permission separately from their visa or residence card. The foreign ministry’s published employment procedures guide says work-permit renewal applications must be filed at least 45 days before expiry. Temporary work authorisations have a different minimum lead time of eight days. This is a review of existing procedures, not an announcement of new November deadlines.
The guide links the work permit’s validity to the fixed-term employment contract and sets a maximum of two years. Its renewal checklist includes the expiring permission, the employer’s explanation of continued recruitment, a new contract, medical certificates, photographs and a repatriation undertaking. Ask the employer’s responsible office to identify the exact document held and prepare its renewal file against that document’s expiry. A longer period printed on an entry visa does not itself extend employment permission.
The national visa guidance distinguishes two contract routes
Algeria’s foreign ministry lists work visas separately from temporary work visas for stays of up to three months. For the work-visa application, it identifies temporary work authorisation, the employment contract and the employer’s undertaking to repatriate the worker when employment ends. The temporary category distinguishes an assistance or service-provision contract from an employment-contract application requiring provisional temporary-work approval. The stated exception concerns prior approval for that particular service-contract route; it should not be enlarged into unrestricted employment rights.
Use the ministry’s entry-visa page to agree the intended category with the employer before arranging the consular submission. The job being short does not answer every classification question: a contracted service assignment and direct employment may produce different supporting files. Consular charges vary by country under reciprocity, with some exemptions. The national page does not establish one worldwide fee or a guaranteed work-visa decision time, so obtain the responsible mission’s actual requirements for the applicant’s nationality and place of residence.
Dublin specifies documents and an Irish-passport fee
The Algerian Embassy in Dublin publishes a more detailed checklist. Its work-visa route requires a passport with at least six months’ validity and a principal-page copy, two dated and signed application forms with photographs, employment-office permission, employment verification and a repatriation commitment. Its temporary route, for work lasting no more than 90 days, specifies the employment contract and temporary authorisation, plus an employer letter explaining the role and purpose and accepting living-expense and repatriation responsibilities.
The temporary-work checklist lists €75, payable in cash, for an Irish passport. This is a nationality-specific consular example, not the amount every foreign worker pays and not the price of an Algerian labour authorisation. Use Dublin’s work-visa page to prepare applications handled there, and confirm acceptance and payment arrangements before attending. Employers should provide documents describing the actual assignment consistently; a commercial invitation that omits employment details should not be assumed to replace the checklist’s required evidence.
UAE residents must use the appropriate mission
The Algerian Consulate General in Dubai requests a passport copy, UAE residence evidence, both sides of the Emirates ID, photographs, company clearance, Algerian work permission or employment contract and a repatriation commitment. British citizens face an additional whole-passport copying requirement. Its page also identifies insurance requirements for specified nationalities. These local filing conditions illustrate why a worker should not submit another country’s embassy checklist unchanged.
Dubai’s guidance directs residents of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the western region to the embassy in Abu Dhabi. It specifies six months’ passport validity from application and two blank pages, and rejects incomplete, unclear or handwritten forms. The page contains inconsistent weekday descriptions for the counter, so confirm the current opening schedule directly rather than rely on the broadest listed period. For a practical sequence, establish the correct labour category with the employer, obtain the relevant mission’s checklist, and set renewal reminders against the work document itself. None of those steps replaces any separate residence formalities.
