Washington appointments resume after the outreach closure
The Embassy of Angola in Washington says its consular section was closed through 28 October for an outreach mission and that appointments resume on 29 October. Its notice directs people whose appointments fell during the closure to contact the visa consular section about rescheduling. Applicants should treat that instruction as relevant to an affected booking, rather than assume the original appointment was automatically transferred.
The notice concerns the Washington service, not a change to Angola’s national visa exemptions or permission to travel without the appropriate documents. The embassy’s visa directory lists tourist, work, study, short-stay, transit, temporary-residence and business categories. The appropriate next step depends on the purpose of travel and the permission required, not simply on the reopening of the appointment calendar.
First check whether a tourist visa is required
Presidential Decree 189/23 of 29 September 2023 established tourism exemption for listed nationalities for up to 30 days per entry and 90 days per year. The government’s implementation announcement identifies 98 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, India, China, Brazil and several European and African states. This is the existing framework; today’s appointment resumption should not be presented as a new 98-country waiver.
The decree applies exclusively to tourism. It says people travelling for work, study, medical treatment, temporary stay or residence must obtain the corresponding visa through the relevant diplomatic or consular office. A national eligible for a holiday exemption should therefore still identify the required route for another activity. The annual limit also means a new arrival should not be assumed to reset all previous tourism days.
Prepare the tourist file where an application is needed
The embassy’s dedicated tourist-service checklist requires a notarised letter stating the purpose, a fully completed and signed application without corrections, a passport valid for at least six months and two recent passport photographs. It also asks for a flight reservation, accommodation evidence and the specified international vaccination certificate. Use the service’s form and checklist to prepare the file before relying on an appointment.
The visa directory describes a tourist visa usable within 60 days and allowing up to 30 days, renewable once. It says the consular section confirms the processing time and fee when booking. No fixed universal charge or guaranteed turnaround is therefore established by that page. Obtain the applicable figure from the responsible service rather than relying on an unrelated online intermediary’s advertised fee.
The booking form is part of preparation, not visa approval
The official tourist appointment page collects the applicant’s name, nationality, passport number and expiry, expected entry date, intended stay, purpose and contact information. Its displayed sequence includes the service, form, documents and date-and-time stages. It says the information can be downloaded as an official application PDF for signature and submission.
Use that page to prepare the correct service request and keep the information consistent with the passport and itinerary. Entering details or downloading the form does not establish that the consulate has accepted the case or issued a visa. If an earlier appointment was affected by the closure, follow the rescheduling instruction before assuming a new date. The service summary also contains an attendance label, so clarify the actual submission arrangement for the individual case when booking.
Check travel documents and the stay actually authorised
For British travellers, UK government guidance requires at least six months of passport validity after arrival and two blank pages. It confirms tourism visits up to 30 days without a visa, while directing work, study and business travellers to obtain permission in advance. These nationality-specific instructions should not be used to establish eligibility for a different passport.
For illustration, an exempt United States tourist may need to check the national exemption and border documents rather than make an unnecessary tourist-visa appointment, while someone travelling for a work assignment must resolve the work route. A visitor staying beyond the authorised period must address the appropriate permission before relying on a later departure. Consular reopening, a booking confirmation and a flight reservation are each different from an issued visa or lawful extension.
