Angola work visas require employer evidence as well as the worker’s documents

A current guide separates employment-contract requirements, consular paperwork and location-specific fees before foreign employees arrange their start date.

A job offer is the start of the work-permission file

Foreign employees preparing to take up a job in Angola need an employment-specific immigration file, including evidence supplied by the hiring company. The embassy in Washington lists a contract or promise of employment alongside identification, criminal-record, medical and vaccination documents. This current guide, checked on 30 October 2026, concerns preparing a work application; it does not announce a new October opening or a newly created work route.

The Washington work-visa checklist specifies a passport valid for at least six months, a completed signed form and the relevant certificates. Its booking service allows applicants to complete a form online, download it and upload required documents. Use that named work service to establish the initial personal-document file and ask the responsible consular office which additional employer materials it requires. Completing a form is not the same as receiving permission to start the contracted duties.

The written contract must match the actual employment

Presidential Decree 49/25, published in the official gazette on 18 February 2025, regulates non-resident foreign workers. Its provisions require a work visa valid for the contractual period, adulthood, professional qualifications substantiated by the employer and medical fitness. For employers covered by the decree, the general workforce rule reserves seventy percent for national labour and limits non-resident foreign labour to thirty percent. This is an employer-compliance issue as well as an individual document check.

The decree requires a written fixed-term contract identifying the parties, occupation, workplace, working hours, remuneration and start date. It also includes a commitment to return to the country of origin after employment ends, with the specified notarial recognition. Use the government-hosted gazette text to check the contract rather than relying on a recruitment message that omits the employer’s identity or place of work. Any claimed exception to the general staffing rule needs an applicable official basis, not an assumption that a specialist job automatically qualifies.

Translation and company records can determine readiness

The Angolan diplomatic portal’s work-visa checklist for Switzerland requests a competent-ministry opinion, contract or assignment document, professional qualifications translated into Portuguese and authenticated, criminal-record evidence and a translated medical certificate. It also lists subsistence and accommodation evidence, a declaration concerning Angolan law, passport copies, travel evidence, vaccination information and payment proof. Use this checklist to identify questions that must be settled with the employer and the consular post handling the file.

The same portal includes commercial registration and tax evidence from the company. These are not documents that a prospective employee can replace with a personal bank statement. Before paying for translations or travel, divide the checklist between records the worker must obtain and records the employer must provide. For example, an applicant may have a valid passport and signed offer while the company still needs to supply its activity licence or tax documentation. That illustrative situation is an incomplete file, not a prediction that a visa will be refused.

Consular fees and submission rules are location-specific

The Consulate-General in Paris publishes work-visa charges differentiated by duration and processing option: EUR90 for its normal three-month category, EUR135 for six months and EUR225 for twelve months. Its listed urgent amounts are higher. The Paris page requires submission in person, permits additional-document requests or an interview and says foreign-language documents need Portuguese translation and the stated legalisation and consular authentication. Applicants using another post should not treat these prices or submission arrangements as universal.

The Switzerland diplomatic portal, meanwhile, displays a US$250 amount but describes payment in Brazilian reais. That currency wording is a concrete reason to obtain an updated instruction from the responsible consular office rather than convert an online figure and send money without confirmation. No universal total application cost or guaranteed completion date is established by these differing pages. Separate the official consular charge from translation, document-authentication, medical, travel and any optional professional-service costs.

Coordinate the start date and later employer records

Angola’s labour ministry describes RENT as an administrative workforce-registration and statistical system. Its April 2025 report identifies irregularities including foreign workers holding visas associated with different companies. The report is useful for understanding why the employer and immigration record need to agree; RENT registration should not be represented as a substitute for the visa application. Employers should use the ministry’s guidance to check their reporting responsibilities alongside the consular process.

The immediate next step is to confirm the responsible consular post, agree who supplies each document and obtain the applicable fee and submission instructions before fixing a non-refundable departure or work-start commitment. There is no newly announced national application deadline in the resources checked for this guide. The operative constraints are the individual contract, passport, certificates, visa decision and authorised stay, each of which must be consistent with the proposed employment.
