Argentina

Argentina digital nomads must distinguish electronic entry from in-country residence and extension

Current official procedures use different channels before and after arrival, and the route is limited to eligible nationalities serving overseas clients.

Tourist-visa eligibility and overseas clients define the route

Argentina’s current digital-nomad procedures cover foreign nationals whose nationality does not require a tourist visa for entry and who provide remote services to people or organisations domiciled abroad. The permission is transitory, for up to 180 days. This is an explanation of the existing route for current applicants, not a new programme announced on 1 November 2026.

The official electronic-entry service page asks for a signed request identifying the proposed activities, a brief curriculum vitae, valid passport material, a newly taken facial photograph and evidence of the remote activity. Evidence can include a contract, company support, certifications or income receipts, with at least one occupational reference. Applicants should assemble documents showing who receives the services and where that client is based. A laptop and an intention to travel do not, by themselves, establish the required professional arrangement. Use this page for the pre-arrival application requirements and confirm nationality eligibility before paying for an itinerary.

Electronic filing includes a consular review stage

The Argentine embassy in Austria’s TIE24H guidance, updated on 10 September 2026, explains that electronic entry authorisation is processed by Migration but includes document review through the consulate serving the applicant’s residence. Digital nomads are among the listed purposes, and the guidance says the process can be initiated within 90 days before travel. The electronic channel does not waive the requirements of the underlying category.

For applicants within that mission’s jurisdiction, its instructions require contact after starting the preliminary request, the relevant documents and an EUR80 consular charge. After payment, the applicant supplies the receipt so the consular office can complete its checks. The mission then records approval on the Migration platform and the applicant receives the authorisation. This is a local procedural example, not a worldwide fee quote or a guaranteed 24-hour decision. Use the responsible mission’s instructions for its payment method and review stage; do not assume that a preliminary online reference is the final authorisation needed at the border.

An applicant already in Argentina uses a different procedure

The government’s in-country digital-nomad residence page describes personal attendance rather than the ordinary RADEX filing process. Applicants in Buenos Aires city are directed to the contact shown on the service page; people elsewhere are directed to the Migration delegation or office responsible for their jurisdiction. Using the pre-arrival electronic-entry form does not automatically perform this in-country application.

The in-country checklist includes identity evidence, Argentine criminal-record documentation for applicants above 16, proof of address and lawful entry, alongside the professional request and activity evidence. It also addresses original foreign documents, legalisation or apostille, Spanish translation by the specified public translator and the authority’s ability to request further evidence. Before ordering translations, establish which original documents the applicable office needs and whether a relevant international agreement changes the formalities. Keep evidence of current lawful admission available: the page treats regular entry as a requirement, rather than suggesting that choosing a remote-work category cures any prior immigration difficulty.

Extension requires evidence from the period already spent in the country

The separate digital-nomad extension page is intended for someone who already obtained that transitory residence. Its checklist asks for income evidence from services performed during the residence period being extended and criminal-record evidence from the country of origin. This differs from simply resubmitting an initial plan to work remotely. The Argentine criminal-record check for applicants above 16 is described as integrated into the system, while the filing instructions still direct personal attendance rather than ordinary RADEX submission.

The underlying Disposition 758/2022 provides for one extension for the same term as the original residence. Plan around the expiry actually granted, rather than assume repeated six-month extensions are unlimited. The reviewed service pages have cost headings without a current amount; an empty field does not establish a fee exemption. Ask the relevant office for the applicable assessment and filing arrangements before expiry. None of these immigration procedures establishes a blanket Argentine tax exemption or permission to take a local employer’s job. Those questions require their own applicable rules, rather than an inference from the digital-nomad label.
