Azerbaijan e-visa checks must match the travel document and the actual visit

Current ASAN Visa conditions distinguish passport accuracy, permission to stay and free address registration. An online approval does not turn every foreign-issued travel document into an eligible passport.

Check the document before relying on electronic approval

Azerbaijan’s ASAN Visa conditions require applicants with more than one nationality to select the nationality corresponding to the document they will actually use for travel. If the application and travel documents differ, the electronic visa is invalid. This current procedural guide addresses that existing requirement rather than announcing a new November visa rule. Travellers should compare the approved document information with the passport they intend to present before departure.

The portal makes applicants responsible for accurate data, a readable passport-image upload and correct payment. An unreadable image can result in refusal, and payments are not refunded when an electronic visa is refused. The travel document must also remain valid three months beyond the visa’s expiry. These checks should be performed before paying and repeated on receipt of the decision. A new passport issued after application is a material change in the document being used, so obtain instructions through the official ASAN channel rather than assume that the old approval transfers automatically.

A Canadian-issued travel document is not necessarily a Canadian passport

The Azerbaijani Embassy in Canada gives a specific warning: Canadian passport holders can use the applicable ASAN route, while holders of Canadian Travel Documents cannot purchase that e-visa and rely on it for entry. The distinction concerns document type, not merely the country printed on the cover or the applicant’s residence in Canada. Other applicants should similarly verify the recognised nationality and document category through the official eligibility route.

The embassy identifies evisa.gov.az as the official electronic-visa website and directs electronic-visa questions and complaints to the ASAN service. That matters where a third-party site accepts a payment without establishing that the traveller holds the right document. An illustrative Canadian resident travelling on another state’s passport should check the rules for that passport; residence in Canada alone does not establish Canadian-passport eligibility. Likewise, a refugee or other travel-document holder should obtain the competent mission’s directions for the appropriate procedure before treating a website’s payment receipt as proof of entry permission.

Validity, processing and the permitted visit are different limits

The Azerbaijani Embassy in Washington lists the ordinary electronic visa as single-entry, valid for ninety days and allowing a stay of thirty days. The ninety-day validity is therefore not permission for a ninety-day visit. Its published processing options are three working days for the standard service and three hours for the urgent service, including non-working days for the latter. The listed amounts are USD 20 and USD 50 respectively; check the official payment screen for the payable breakdown rather than assume those descriptions include every service charge.

Plan the arrival and departure against both the validity dates and the allowed duration. For an illustrative visitor arriving late in the validity window, a thirty-day stay should not be assumed to extend beyond the document’s final validity date. Urgent processing changes the stated service window, not the traveller’s nationality, document eligibility or right to enter. Keep the decision available with the passport and confirm the actual outcome before travelling; starting an online application is not the same as receiving approval.

Longer visits require a separate address-registration check

The State Migration Service’s current questions page explains registration for visits exceeding fifteen days, with a thirty-day threshold for Kazakh citizens. The receiving accommodation provider or owner submits the information, and the foreign visitor may also apply. The evidence includes the application and passport copy with the relevant visa and latest entry pages. Registration carries no state fee. Ask the hotel or host to confirm that the required registration has actually been completed.

The same resource requires a new address registration within five working days after moving, subject to its stated exception for another property belonging to the same owner. Leaving Azerbaijan ends the registration, so a later return requires the applicable registration again. Use the service’s registration-check or application-tracking links to verify the record rather than rely solely on a verbal assurance. Address registration does not extend the visa’s permitted stay or grant employment rights. If the intended visit changes, establish the correct immigration procedure before the existing permission expires rather than assuming registration cures an overstay.
