Use ordinary renewal for an intact passport nearing expiry
Bahrain’s government catalogue limits ordinary passport renewal to intact documents with less than one year remaining. Lost or damaged passports use a different replacement service. This is a current guide, not a new November restriction.
The Passport Replacement ordinary checklist requires the application, photograph and original passport for personal submission. Holders aged fourteen or older provide their authorised signature. Online applicants attach the photograph separately and a clear passport copy, then select delivery. The catalogue’s four-working-day indication is not a guaranteed completion date for every file.
A child’s first passport follows a separate procedure
The government’s Issuance of Passport ordinary entry describes the service for children of a Bahraini father. It requires submission by the father or an authorised person for newborns and people with limited capacity, with the father’s presence specified for collection. This published service scope should not be expanded into a conclusion about every nationality or parentage case.
The checklist requires a white-background photograph, the birth certificate, both parents’ passports and the marriage certificate, with a parental death certificate where relevant. In-person filing requires originals and copies; the online route uses the father’s eKey and document uploads. An administrative check precedes the payment request. The catalogue lists fourteen working days for this service, a different indication from ordinary renewal. Families should plan with the first-issuance process rather than a renewal timetable. Use its linked status service and the receipt number to follow the request, and wait for the readiness notification before assuming collection can take place.
Check requests for corrections and missing documents
The official Passport Services user manual explains why submission is not always the last action. Its Request Status Enquiry function can show missing documents, a rejected photograph or a pending payment. Applicants must upload the requested replacement evidence and resubmit where instructed. Keep the request number and check for required action rather than interpret an unfinished case as routine processing.
The manual also describes verification of personal details when applying for a family member. Where a name amendment is requested, the applicant may have to approve the proposed printed name. Rejecting that proposal cancels the request under the described workflow. Check the spelling carefully against the supporting record before approval; ordering a new document should not reproduce an unresolved identity mismatch.
Applicants needing fingerprint or signature updates are directed to an identity-card service centre. These identity-record steps are separate from simply uploading a new passport photograph. The manual includes options labelled not yet activated, so its screen illustrations should not be treated as proof that every displayed delivery or expedited option is currently available. Confirm the actual choices offered by the live service.
Use the correct fee and distinguish delivery from issuance
Interior Ministry Decision 36 of 2023, effective from 20 March 2023, lists BD12 for the first ordinary electronic passport and BD15 for ordinary replacement. It separately lists BD50 for replacing a lost ordinary passport and BD15 for a damaged one. These are established category-specific fees, not a new increase announced today. A lost document therefore should not be entered as routine renewal merely to select a lower charge.
The current renewal catalogue confirms BD15, reduced to BD7.5 for people over sixty, with BD3.950 for local delivery. An older manual displays BD12 for renewal. Resolve that discrepancy against the current payment request; a delivery interval does not establish the full processing time.
Open the correct live service and retain the receipt
The live Passport Services portal separates first issuance for a newborn, ordinary renewal, replacement of a lost or damaged passport, and status enquiries. Its renewal option covers the applicant and qualifying family members, while the newborn option is a different transaction. Select the service matching the document’s condition and the person concerned before creating the request.
The portal identifies Standard eKey access for these services. Follow its sign-in and terms, then use Request Status Enquiry for any required action. Retain the request and payment records. For an unclear document category or unexpected charge, contact NPRA on 17077077 before payment. Plan around the passport expiry and the destination’s validity requirements, rather than a common November filing deadline.
