Bangladeshi e-passport applicants in London and New York must attend in person

Online forms do not replace enrolment appointments. This current guide explains identity evidence, local payment instructions and a separate emergency return document.

London requires an appointment even for young children

Bangladeshi e-passport applicants in London must attend the High Commission after completing the online application and booking an appointment. Its current guidance requires attendance at every age, including newborns. Children under six are exempt from biometric capture but still attend with the specified printed photograph. These are existing procedures.

The London resource directs applicants to the government e-passport portal, selecting the United Kingdom and London as the processing office. It requires an NID or an online-verifiable seventeen-digit birth registration record containing English data. Names and other details must match the application and existing records. Resolve discrepancies with the issuing authority before enrolment. The page warns that selecting an appointment without completing the subsequent submission steps can leave an unsuccessful application. Download the final form and barcode summary, rather than assume that a reserved time proves successful submission.

New York has its own enrolment and payment instructions

The Bangladesh consulate in New York’s Applying e-Passport page also separates online preparation from a personal biometric appointment. Applicants create an account through the official government system and use their previous passport and NID or online birth certificate to enter consistent information. A proposed correction needs appropriate supporting evidence, not simply a changed answer in the new form.

The listed appointment records include the printed application summary, identification documents, previous passport and any applicable government-service authorisation or correction evidence. Collection requires the enrolment delivery slip; an authorised representative must bring the identification specified by the consulate. These are practical reasons to retain the enrolment paperwork after leaving the counter.

The page’s current payment paragraph says in-person passport services accept debit or credit cards, with money orders for mail or consular camps, and no online consular payment. A lower checklist still mentions money orders or certified cheques. Confirm the accepted instrument for the actual service before attending instead of assuming both passages describe interchangeable choices.

Choose the passport product before calculating the fee

New York’s separate fee table distinguishes page count, validity, service level and applicant category. A regular forty-eight-page, five-year passport is US$110 for the general category, compared with US$33 for the stated student and labour category. The regular ten-year version is US$137.50 or US$55 respectively. Applicants claiming a reduced category should ask what supporting proof the consulate requires rather than select it solely because it costs less.

The discounts do not extend across every product: the published sixty-four-page fees are the same for the general and student/labour columns. For example, a regular five-year, sixty-four-page passport is US$165. Express products have separate amounts. Use the fee page for the selected product and confirm eligibility before payment. Although its title refers to processing time, the visible table does not establish a guaranteed completion date. A higher express charge should not be treated as proof that a particular flight can be met.

Urgent return to Bangladesh uses a different document

The London High Commission’s Travel Permit page describes an alternative for a Bangladeshi citizen without a valid Bangladeshi passport who intends to return to Bangladesh. It requires a completed permit form, a copy of the previous passport, a digital birth certificate and three passport photographs. The applicant must attend an interview. This is a return document, not the ordinary e-passport product or a general replacement for an itinerary through other countries.

The published permit charge is GBP25, non-refundable and payable by card at the counter; cash and cheques are not accepted. The permit is valid for three months. The High Commission gives at least two to three working days as processing guidance, so applicants should confirm readiness before relying on a departure booking. Use the permit resource to check the appointment, document and collection arrangements directly. For an illustrative person whose passport has expired, the immediate choice is between completing ordinary enrolment and asking about documented return travel; urgency does not remove the identity evidence required for either route.
