Bangladesh NVR applications require mission-specific origin evidence and payment steps

Current official instructions differ between Chennai, Bangkok, Lisbon and Toronto, particularly over previous NVR stickers, family documents and payment channels.

Check the endorsement route before selecting an application office

Bangladesh’s No Visa Required endorsement can simplify repeated travel for qualifying people of Bangladeshi origin and their families, but official missions do not publish identical application instructions. This current procedural guide examines those differences; it does not report a newly announced nationwide rule. The relevant nationality, relationship, residence and receiving mission must be established before an applicant chooses a checklist.

Bangkok’s NVR guidance describes multiple entries and unlimited stay during the endorsed passport’s validity. Its origin-based categories exclude SAARC-country citizens, so Bangladeshi ancestry alone should not be treated as proof that every foreign passport qualifies. Non-Thai applicants must also supply evidence of lawful stay in Thailand. For a foreign spouse, Bangkok requests an attested marriage certificate; for a child, an attested birth certificate. The attesting authority differs between Thai and other nationals. Use that mission’s checklist to establish the required authentication before arranging submission.

Chennai requires fresh origin evidence rather than an old sticker alone

The Chennai Deputy High Commission’s checklist, updated on 27 September 2026, requires a foreign passport valid for at least six months, two recent white-background photographs, the completed application from visa.gov.bd and a copy of the Indian visa. Bangladeshi-origin evidence may be a valid or expired Bangladesh passport, dual-citizenship evidence, national identity card or birth-registration certificate. Chennai expressly says a previous NVR copy is not accepted as origin proof.

For a foreign spouse, it requires the Bangladeshi-origin spouse’s evidence, marriage certificate and a notarised declaration that the marriage remains intact. A child’s birth certificate must identify the relevant parent. Chennai lists INR 7,500 payable by NEFT and instructs applicants to submit copies of supporting documents, retaining the original passport for endorsement. A court order is required for a name change, with a marriage-certificate provision for a woman adding her husband’s name. Interviews and additional documents remain possible.

Lisbon uses the national form but publishes different supporting instructions

Lisbon’s official NVR page, last substantively updated on 8 October 2025, directs applicants to complete visa.gov.bd, skip the payment option in section 04, select FM in section 06 and print the submitted form. It requests the original passport and identity-page copy, two 45-by-35-millimetre white-background photographs and a EUR 80 processing fee. These are existing Lisbon instructions, not an October 2026 fee increase.

Unlike Chennai, Lisbon lists a previously issued NVR copy among its supporting evidence. Its child checklist combines the child’s birth certificate with a parent’s Bangladesh passport or national identity document. The difference is consequential: a file assembled successfully for Lisbon may still be incomplete in Chennai. Applicants changing their submitting mission should rebuild the document list from the receiving office’s page rather than assume that a previous acceptance binds another consulate. Where a page does not resolve a family circumstance, seek clarification before sending the original passport.

Toronto has its own portal, payment methods and return arrangements

Toronto’s simplified instructions, labelled updated 18 December 2025, direct Canadian citizens of Bangladeshi origin and qualifying spouses and children to its BDCGT service portal. The checklist includes a Canadian passport with six months’ validity and accepts several forms of origin evidence, including a previous passport bearing an NVR sticker. For foreign-born children it requests evidence linking the parent and child, plus both parents’ consent. The spouse checklist includes an intact-marriage declaration.

Toronto lists a non-refundable C$130 fee, permits specified online, bank-instrument and card payments, and does not accept cash. Postal applicants need a trackable return envelope; in-person applicants attend their booked appointment. The stated processing period is five working days after complete documents arrive, rather than five days from starting an online form. None of these pages promises approval or a universal urgent-travel exception. The immediate action is to identify the responsible mission, satisfy its nationality and residence requirements, and complete its own document and payment sequence before relying on an NVR for travel.
