Barbados Welcome Stamp: year-end programme date, income evidence and payment deadlines

A published programme horizon approaching at year-end

Barbados remote workers planning a first application or renewal should distinguish the Welcome Stamp programme’s published continuation date from the duration of an individual immigration permission. The Ministry of Tourism’s report covering April 2024 says Cabinet approved renewal of the programme until 31 December 2026. That is an existing policy statement, not an announcement made today. This current guide checks the application process as the year-end approaches.

The ministry report is the official resource for that programme history. It does not establish that every existing holder must leave on 31 December, or explain how an application submitted near that date will be treated. Prospective applicants whose intended relocation or renewal falls in 2027 should obtain a case-specific answer before committing to a year-long lease. The continued availability of an application form alone does not resolve that question.

Identify whether the work fits this permission

The government-published Remote Employment Act provides the legal starting point: the route concerns non-nationals employed outside Barbados who seek to work remotely from the island. Its conditions include a valid passport, evidence of qualifying income generated outside Barbados, and health insurance covering the permission period. Read that Act to understand why an overseas employment arrangement and insurance evidence matter, rather than treating the stamp as an unrestricted local work permit.

The current application declaration also covers accompanying family members and prohibits accepting employment from, or offering services to, the specified people and businesses in Barbados. A remote employee considering a separate local client therefore needs clarification before accepting that engagement. Merely describing an activity as freelance work does not answer whether it falls within the authorised arrangement.

Prepare the electronic application and family evidence

Use the official Welcome Stamp application, which offers separate selections for a new application and a renewal and requests a previous visa number for renewal. The form asks for employer details, the nature of the work, passport particulars, proposed entry date and accompanying dependants. Prepare these details consistently across family members before starting; a family application is more than the principal applicant’s passport scan.

The application help lists a passport photograph, passport biographical page and evidence of dependant relationships. Its income declaration refers to expected earnings of at least US$50,000 over the next twelve months and/or means of supporting the accompanying household. However, Visit Barbados states an annual income threshold of at least US$50,000. Applicants relying primarily on savings should seek confirmation of acceptable evidence rather than assuming that the differently worded declaration guarantees eligibility.

Budget for approval and its separate payment deadline

Visit Barbados, the official tourism resource, lists US$2,000 for an individual and US$3,000 for a family bundle, payable after approval and non-refundable. It gives a typical seven-business-day approval period and requires payment within 28 days after approval. A typical processing period is planning guidance, not a guaranteed decision date; the approval notice should be checked for the actual payment instructions and deadline.

The same guidance describes a one-year permission and the possibility of reapplying. Reapplication should not be confused with an automatic extension. For illustration, a household awaiting a decision should separately track its present immigration expiry and any later approval-payment date. Paying a new fee does not itself demonstrate that the household’s earlier permission has remained valid throughout.

Resolve entry and renewal questions with the correct office

The Immigration Department contact directory identifies a dedicated Welcome Stamp team and a separate extensions-of-stay team. Use the Welcome Stamp contact for programme continuation, renewal evidence and the income-wording issue; use the extensions team when the immediate question concerns an existing visitor permission. Include the current permission expiry and intended travel date so the department can address the relevant timeline.

British citizens can use the UK government’s Barbados entry guidance for their ordinary visitor position: admission length is decided on arrival, an onward or return ticket is required, and all travellers must complete the online immigration and customs form before arrival. Those visitor rules do not confer Welcome Stamp work rights. Other nationalities should establish their own entry-visa requirement alongside the remote-work application. The unresolved year-end arrangements and any individual conditions must be settled with Immigration before travel or continued work.
