Bermuda keeps qualifying actuary work permits on a ten-working-day route until July 2027
The August extension preserves a conditional processing route for new actuarial permits. Employers still need recruitment evidence, complete documents and post-submission notification.

The extended policy is conditional, not a separate right to work
Bermuda's Department of Immigration announced on 3 August 2026 that its Actuary Work Permit Policy would continue until 31 July 2027. Qualifying applications remain eligible for processing within ten working days. This is a follow-up on that extension for employers planning actuarial recruitment; it does not announce another November change or guarantee that a job offer produces approval.
The published conditions require a role needing a qualified actuary or recognised professional actuarial designation, at least three years of relevant professional experience, advertising in line with policy, a complete application and evidence of the applicant's credentials. No statutory-body referral may be required. Employers must notify Immigration by email immediately after submitting a qualifying application. The announcement covers new Standard, Intra-Company Transfer, Periodic and New Business permits, and excludes promotions and job-title changes. The deadline concerns continuation of the policy, not a promise that every permit granted under it expires in July 2027.
Choose the underlying permit before requesting faster processing
The government's Standard Work Permit service explains that this permit allows an employer to recruit a foreign national where a suitably qualified or available Bermudian, spouse of a Bermudian, Belonger, spouse of a Belonger or Permanent Resident's Certificate holder could not be hired. It offers terms of one to five years and allows applications for open, special or restricted categories, while excluding closed-category jobs.
Use that service and its linked application when Standard permission is appropriate. An actuarial designation does not itself choose the permit category or eliminate the underlying recruitment assessment. An overseas professional transferring within a group and a person taking a new local employment contract may need different application routes, even where both employers want the actuarial processing timetable. Establishing the correct route first avoids sending a complete set of documents for the wrong permission.
Prepare evidence that makes the employment proposal assessable
The live Standard application form requests the employing company's identity, proposed job title, requested start date, annual base remuneration and requested permit length. It distinguishes a first application from an expiring existing permit and asks for passport and nationality details. Use these fields to make the offer, application and supporting records consistent; a vague description of work in insurance is not the same as identifying a position requiring actuarial expertise.
Its checklist asks for the recruitment records, employment statement and supporting identity documents, and requires the employer and applicant to complete and sign the relevant parts. The form includes older administrative instructions, so current policy and fee guidance should be checked where requirements have since changed. The August actuary notice's requirement for a complete file remains material: an incomplete application cannot be assumed to qualify merely because the applicant holds a professional designation.
Pay the applicable permit fee and use the work-permit enquiry channel
The official All Immigration Fees page, updated 3 September 2026, lists Standard or Periodic permit fees of BMD1,015 for one year, BMD2,530 for two years and BMD3,795 for three years. New Business permits have a separate schedule. Those are permit-category charges, not a single universal actuarial fee. Use the schedule for the actual term and any additional applicable service, rather than calculating a price from the ten-day processing description.
That fee page requires bank transfer or online payment and confirmation of the transfer with the application. Payment references identify the company, applicant and application type. Preserve that evidence so the assessment can be matched to the file. The Department's June 2026 enquiry notice identifies [email protected] for work-permit enquiries and says an acknowledgement or response can be expected within two business days. That service response is separate from a decision on permission. Confirm the appropriate notification details when requesting actuarial processing, and resolve any missing evidence or required professional referral before relying on a proposed employment start date.
