Use the immigration renewal window before the visa expires
Foreign nationals already in Burkina Faso should check the expiry date on their immigration document before relying on another online application. The official Visa Burkina renewal instructions require physical attendance at the migration service during the seven clear days preceding visa expiry. This current procedural guide explains that published requirement; it does not announce a newly introduced November deadline. Preparing evidence early is sensible, while the actual filing arrangements should follow the migration service’s instructions.
The renewal page asks applicants to bring original documents and provide the information to an officer. It separates payment from issuance: cash is paid to the cashier against a receipt that is scanned into the application, while card payments attract an additional transaction charge. The service describes issuance as a passport visa for long stay or a residence permit for the resident route. It does not say that a payment receipt automatically extends an expiring stay.
Distinguish a longer visa from unrestricted residence
The official long-stay page defines the category as a visa valid for more than 90 days. However, it also says a multiple-entry circulation visa limits total stays to 90 days per half-year. That distinction is important for a business traveller: a visa with a long period of validity does not necessarily permit continuous residence throughout that period. Use the long-stay guidance to check the specific endorsement rather than calculating lawful stay solely from the final expiry date.
The residence-conditions page says foreigners seeking more than 90 days need an appropriate long-stay visa, residence permit or residence title. The separate permit page describes validity exceeding two years but total residence not exceeding two years, and leaves its supporting-document fields incomplete. Applicants should ask the migration service to clarify the intended duration and applicable evidence. The incomplete webpage is not a reliable basis for assuming an unlimited multi-year stay or inventing a checklist.
Match evidence and charges to the requested category
The long-stay checklist requires a valid passport, completed and signed application, recent white-background photograph, evidence of purpose, a medical certificate, health insurance, subsistence or maintenance evidence and the stamp-duty receipt. Students additionally need enrolment evidence or tuition-payment confirmation; training and conference participants need an invitation. The published table lists 126,500 CFA francs for study or training and 231,000 for business. Confirm the category and current charge before payment, particularly where family-related descriptions overlap in the table.
The permit page separately displays 220,000 francs for family reunion and 330,000 for business. Those figures describe different products from the long-stay visa and are not interchangeable quotations. A family planning to remain after a short visit should obtain an answer on the correct route before paying either amount. Neither the listed permit prices nor the renewal instructions establish a general exemption for every regional nationality; individual treaty or status-based treatment needs confirmation.
Keep employment approval separate from immigration renewal
The official short-stay guidance expressly states that its visa does not authorise employment without prior labour-ministry permission. Burkina Faso’s parliament also reported in May 2026 that its adopted labour-code text introduced prior employment-service authorisation, a work permit and contract endorsement before employment for non-national non-residents. This report identifies the reform and affected group, but is not itself a complete application manual or a statement of every implementing date and exception.
Employers recruiting from abroad should therefore verify the operative labour requirements before fixing a start date, rather than using a renewed immigration document as proof that work may begin. Ask for the applicable permit procedure, contract endorsement, fee schedule and any treatment of workers already resident. The sources reviewed do not settle those details or promise a processing time. For immigration renewal, use the dedicated migration-service page; for the employment reform, use the parliamentary account to frame the employer’s specific compliance enquiry.
