Begin renewal before the passport becomes a travel problem

Cameroonian nationals using the High Commission in London are advised to apply for passport renewal at least six months before expiry because passport validity cannot be extended. This current procedural guide covers the UK and the mission’s Scandinavian service area; it does not announce a newly introduced November deadline. An approaching expiry should trigger the renewal process rather than an assumption that an emergency paper will automatically be available for a planned journey.

The biometric-passport page directs applicants to Passcam for pre-enrolment, payment and an appointment before attending. The printed record must show its barcode and application number, and officials compare supporting documents with originals before collecting the applicant’s biometrics. The page says an appointment can be changed only once and is valid for at most ten days before cancellation. Use that page and its linked guidance to establish the personal checklist and appointment requirements. Once notified that the passport is ready, collection requires the original application receipt and identity evidence. The mission publishes a Monday-to-Wednesday collection window of 16:00 to 16:30. Applicants using a representative need the original receipt and a certified authorisation letter; the collection arrangement should be resolved before the representative attends.

Keep consular registration distinct from immigration status

The consular-card service is for Cameroonian nationals resident in the UK or Scandinavian region. Visitors and foreign nationals are excluded. The mission says nationals taking up residence abroad should register at the earliest opportunity and lists the application form, passport-data copy and residence permit or other evidence of lawful residence. A consular card records registration with Cameroon’s mission; it does not grant permission to live in the host country.

Applications and payment for the card are made through the official Evisacam portal rather than by walking into the High Commission with cash. The page publishes normal and express service periods of 72 and 24 hours. These describe that service, not a passport-production deadline or permission to travel while a passport application is pending. For an applicant managing both procedures, retain each service’s application reference and receipt so the consular registration is not confused with passport enrolment.

Use the dated fee schedule and confirm conflicting instructions

The consular fee schedule effective from 3 January 2026 separates services paid at the counter from those paid through government portals. It lists document certification at £22 per document and birth transcription at £20, while passport stamp fees are paid through Passcam. Visa, consular-card and emergency-travel-document payments are directed to Evisacam. The mission states that counter payments are cash only and that it does not collect the portal-service fees itself.

There is an unresolved discrepancy: the emergency-travel page mentions a cash fee, although the dated fee schedule directs that service’s payment online. The general legalisation page also displays an older £20 certification figure and mentions postal orders. Obtain confirmation from the consular section before paying or sending funds. These conflicting entries should not be combined into a new invented tariff, nor should a customer assume that payment through one channel settles every supporting-document charge.

Prepare originals for certification and exceptional return travel

The legalisation page asks for originals and photocopies of documents requiring certification, alongside a Cameroonian passport copy and UK residence permit where applicable. Its services include powers of attorney and attestations of names or nationality. Use this resource to identify what must be presented in original form, and the dated fee page to ask about the current charge. The checklist is expressly non-exhaustive, so a particular document may require additional evidence.

The emergency-travel guidance describes a laissez-passer for return to Cameroon after passport loss and for certain permanent-return situations. It expressly rejects automatic issuance merely because a resident’s passport has expired; exceptional cases are assessed individually. The checklist includes a written request, one-way transport evidence, photographs, certified birth evidence and legalised proof of passport loss or invalidity. Someone seeking an urgent return should contact the consular section about that route, while ordinary renewal applicants should continue the passport process. Neither document guarantees admission through a transit country or renewed residence rights abroad.
