Check whether the three-year option covers your application

Curaçao’s residence policy effective from 1 April 2026 allows applications for permits lasting up to three years, with the relevant fees and charges paid for every requested year before processing. This current guide explains the payment and filing consequences; the April policy is not a new November announcement.

The policy excludes short stay, remote-worker permission and extensions of tourist stays from that general three-year option. Dependent family members follow the principal applicant’s permit duration: they cannot obtain three years where the principal permit lasts only one. The policy also requires a valid passport, application and payment evidence, alongside the necessary supporting documents. The former six-week opportunity to repair an incomplete application had already been abolished. Use the official April policy to check the requested duration and prepare the complete file before treating an online submission as ready for assessment.

Select a residence permit or the appropriate declaration

The Admissions Organisation’s Permits and Declarations page distinguishes foreign-national residence permits from declarations covering other legal positions. It directs Dutch and American nationals, and certain official, military or posted personnel, towards the relevant admission-by-operation-of-law declaration categories.

The same page identifies a separate declaration for people with a parent who is a Dutch national born in Curaçao. Applicants should therefore establish which product fits their nationality and family circumstances instead of assuming every person moving to the island needs the same residence form. Use this resource to choose the actual purpose, such as employment, family, study or retirement. The availability of a multiyear residence policy does not establish that a person in a declaration category should apply for that permit instead.

Prepare readable scans and use the correct submission channel

The Submit Application page links the digital forms but warns that not every residence purpose can be submitted through the online portal. Where the purpose is unavailable, it instructs applicants to scan the form and supporting documents as PDFs and send them to [email protected]. Check the listed route for the intended purpose rather than choose an unrelated online category to make the system accept a file.

The page requires scans from originals, with all information visible, legible and unaltered. Identity documents must be complete and in colour: the relevant upper and lower passport pages, or both sides of an identity card, should be visible with their edges. Do not obscure text, cover entries or submit blurred photographs in place of readable scans. Use the submission guidance to check the actual files that will be uploaded, including every household member’s evidence where required.

Separate application charges from a nationality-based deposit

The organisation’s Fees, Deposit and Refund resource links the official payment-order form for the applicable product charges. Confirm the current product amount and required payment reference before transferring funds. A residence application’s processing charges should not be confused with the separate security deposit described on that page.

The deposit becomes payable after admission approval and depends on nationality and the applicable transport rates. For children under ten, the page states that it is half the established amount. Applicants should ask for the correct individual calculation instead of applying an adult figure to every dependent. The resource also describes refund requests following a negative residence decision or payment where no application was made. A refund requires its own form, valid-passport copy and payment evidence; it is not described as an automatic reversal when the applicant changes plans.

Use the right status check and collect the actual decision

The official Status page distinguishes applications in progress from those already decided. It says applications lodged through the online portal must be checked by logging into the account; their status will not appear in the public list. The public list’s displayed coverage ended on 26 October when checked for this report, so absence from that list should not be treated as a refusal.

For an approved application, the page requires an appointment to collect the residence document and directs the applicant to the decision’s completion instructions for the documents to bring. Use the status resource to establish the next action, then read the individual decision. Payment, a submitted form and a collection appointment are different stages; only the official outcome establishes the permission actually granted.
