Registration is open, but this is not a new entry visa
Czechia’s special long-term residence registration opened on 1 October 2026 and continues until 31 December, the Interior Ministry’s 30 September notice confirms. This deadline follow-up concerns temporary-protection holders who previously expressed interest and can access their assessment through electronic identity on the official foreigner information portal. It is not a general route for new overseas applicants to obtain a work visa.
The Ministry says eligible applicants can register and reserve an office appointment during the registration period. Joint households must coordinate attendance rather than treating each person’s appointment as independent. The published notice says there is no need to register immediately on opening day, but waiting until the final date leaves less opportunity to resolve an incorrect assessment or arrange household documents.
Check the household assessment before reserving a visit
The conditions-assessment page explains how the authorities assess continuous temporary protection, insurance, household income, humanitarian-benefit history and school attendance. Adults generally need continuous temporary protection from 1 April 2024 to 1 April 2026; continuity after 1 April 2026 is checked for every household member, including children. The two-year residence test does not apply to children under eighteen.
The published income test uses total 2025 annual income of at least CZK440,000 plus CZK110,000 for each additional household member. This is an assessed household income figure, not the application fee. If a condition appears incorrectly unmet, contact the responsible data authority identified on that page. Immigration reassesses corrected official data; sending personal copies of tax or insurance records directly to Immigration is not the prescribed correction route.
Finish registration by booking, not only entering details
The registration instructions say the household founder completes the process for the jointly registered members. The office offered is based on the address entered, and registration is completed only when the appointment is reserved. Check passports and relationship evidence before selecting a day; a saved personal-details form without the reservation is not the completed step described by the Ministry.
All household members, including children, must attend biometric capture. The instructions require a valid travel document and evidence linking jointly registered people, such as original birth or marriage certificates. Relevant school-attendance or adult-child dependency evidence may also be necessary. Laminated documents are not accepted as originals. The guidance says certified Czech translations are not required for the documents it lists.
Budget for cards and understand the insurance change
The Ministry’s general-information page lists CZK2,500 for each special-residence card and CZK1,000 for children under fifteen. The appointment instructions specify payment by bank card at the Interior Ministry office. For illustration, two adults and one child aged ten would face CZK6,000 in these card charges, excluding other personal document or insurance expenses.
The general-information page describes a five-year residence status with free labour-market access and no adaptation-integration course obligation. It also distinguishes insurance responsibilities: employees are generally covered through employment, while self-employed and other non-working adults must arrange the specified comprehensive coverage. Legal representatives pay public insurance contributions for children under eighteen. The page also states that the status does not confer entitlement to non-insurance social benefits. For a later permanent-residence application, special residence counts in full and previous temporary protection counts by half, subject to meeting the remaining conditions. Check these ongoing costs before deciding that a change from temporary protection suits the household.
Keep eligibility current until the card is collected
The assessment page says continuity is checked again before biometric capture and card issuance. A positive account result should therefore not be treated as permission to let temporary protection lapse during the remaining process. Maintain the underlying status and check the account for further instructions while waiting for the office visit.
An existing appointment can be changed only once through the temporary-protection information line; the official contacts page lists +420 974 801 802 and weekday service hours. Use that resource for the permitted appointment change. The office separately allocates card collection, and special residence begins on collection. An appointment confirmation, payment receipt or initial assessment is not the residence card itself.
