Egypt study applicants need separate enrolment, entry approval and residence files
Current guidance from Egyptian missions and the public Alexandria University shows why an admission record does not settle the visa and residence steps.

Keep admission and immigration decisions separate
International students preparing to study in Egypt should organise admission evidence and immigration permission as separate files. Egyptian consular guidance asks students for recent enrolment records, while Alexandria University’s TAFL Centre describes further residence formalities after arrival. This is current procedural reporting, not a newly announced November student-visa programme. The requirements depend on the mission handling the application, nationality and the institution supporting the intended stay.
The national Study in Egypt initiative operates under the Higher Education Ministry and is managed by the Central Administration for International Students. Its official information platform helps applicants identify universities, programmes and opportunities before moving to the application procedure. Use its institutional information to establish the academic route and contact the administration about admission; it does not say that browsing a programme or receiving an academic offer grants entry permission. Students should obtain the enrolment evidence requested by the relevant consulate.
Students applying through Doha need guardian evidence and approval checks
The Egyptian mission’s Doha FAQ requires students studying in Egypt to provide recent enrolment evidence, a written guardian declaration and the guardian’s passport copy. Its general visa file also includes the original passport and copy, residence-card and exit-and-return-document copies, photographs, recent bank statements and employer evidence. The specified passport and residence-related validity requirements exceed six months. Use the Doha FAQ for that mission’s checklist instead of importing another consulate’s requirements.
The FAQ says some nationalities need special approval requested at least one and a half months before proposed travel. Its four-working-day description applies to processing after receipt for categories not needing prior approval and may be longer. A student should therefore establish whether prior approval applies before using that shorter period to plan departure. The mission says instructions may change; the page does not identify a universal student fee or exempt every enrolled student from nationality-based checks.
Paris applicants should confirm the non-French visa checklist
The Paris consulate’s FAQ has a visa checklist specifically for non-French citizens, including a passport and residence permit valid more than six months, photographs, three months of bank statements, employer evidence, transport and hotel arrangements. It asks for an invitation for travel purposes other than tourism and a recent enrolment certificate for students studying in Egypt. Use that named section to identify the evidence applicable to a non-French applicant residing within the mission’s remit.
The Paris guidance also distinguishes categories not requiring prior approval from asylum travel documents and certain nationalities needing special authorisation well before travel. The apparent four-working-day service period should not be treated as a guarantee for those cases. For example, a student holding a refugee travel document should establish the approval route before treating an enrolment letter as sufficient for departure. Neither the Paris nor Doha checklist establishes that a visitor document automatically converts to student residence after arrival.
Arrange the institution’s residence process after arrival
TAFL, part of the public Alexandria University, describes a residence service for its own students registered for at least a semester, with tuition payment required for private students. Its instructions link the proposed residence period to paid registration: four months for half-year payment or eight months for the full academic year. These are TAFL’s published arrangements and should not be applied automatically to every university, language course or nationality.
The centre instructs arriving students to attend the meeting arranged by its visa staff with three photographs and to provide the passport at two stages, described as 24 hours each. Digital photography requires personal attendance at the Passports Administration. Charges include residence fees, the student card and administrative expenses, without a fixed total stated. TAFL expressly says it cannot control passport authorities’ fees or the variable security-check duration. Contact the institution before the admitted stay expires, preserve submission records and confirm how passport retention affects any planned trip.
