The first grant does not provide three years immediately

Fiji’s assured-income route covers non-citizens aged 45 or over. Immigration grants six months initially, with another two and a half years dependent on a $100,000 remittance or qualifying property purchase. This guide explains existing rules.

The current application page directs applicants to Immi Hub and limits dependants within the principal application to legal spouses and children under 18. Other relatives or partners must check the appropriate independent route rather than assume inclusion.

Budget for living funds as well as the initial financial condition

Fiji’s Washington embassy publishes additional funding guidance for assured-income residents. It describes a FJD 100,000 deposit in a resident account at a local bank following approval, with a possible waiver where an applicant has bought property and can document its purchase and value. A property plan or an advertisement is therefore different from evidence that the required purchase has occurred.

The embassy page also describes annual deposits of FJD 30,000 for a family of two or FJD 40,000 for a family of up to five. It requires the principal applicant to carry health insurance and not seek employment. Confirm the current financial conditions on the actual grant with Immigration before transferring money: the embassy’s general policy page and the current application page describe different parts of the process. Neither should be treated as a guarantee that one payment covers all living costs, family expenses and later conditions.

Explain the source and duration of the overseas income

The government’s published residence-permit form contains a specific assured-income section. It asks for the source and amount of income, how frequently transfers will be made, the sums to be transferred and the bank or agency receiving them in Fiji. It also asks for proof of funds or income and how long the resources will remain available. A balance alone may not explain the ongoing funding arrangement the form is designed to record.

The form separates this purpose from residence with relatives and other reasons for a stay. Use its questions to organise the evidence for the current online application, rather than submit the older printable form as an assumed alternative to Immi Hub. For example, a pension-funded applicant can identify the paying scheme, expected payments and receiving account without claiming that the example establishes eligibility. Keep the information consistent with the supporting statements and the intended residence period.

Residence on assured income has conditions on activities

Regulations 48 to 50 of Fiji’s Immigration Regulations explain the underlying framework. They require sufficient assets available outside Fiji so that the applicant will not become a charge on public funds and address the retired or approved-age-group character of the route. The maximum duration is three years; that statutory maximum does not mean every applicant receives the whole period at once.

The regulations also restrict professional work, employment, religious vocation, research and study unless the prescribed written approval is obtained. The current application guidance expressly excludes people intending to work or operate a business under this category. A retiree who later wants to take a job or undertake another restricted activity should resolve the required permission first. Do not assume that unpaid activity is automatically allowed merely because it produces no salary. The regulations and the actual permit conditions are the appropriate resources for identifying those restrictions; the residence form does not waive them. The regulations also allow other written conditions to be imposed. Retain the decision and check its individual conditions alongside the general rules.

Confirm the payable charges and the six-month checkpoint

The current Immigration page lists FJD 650.05 for the principal application and FJD 185 per dependant, with online-provider charges additional. Those fees are separate from the funding condition. Before the initial permission ends, use Immi Hub and Immigration’s instructions to confirm the evidence required for the remaining period; do not assume a bank transfer extends the permit automatically.
