Fiji investors must separate immigration permission from three-month reporting duties
Current guide: company registration, Reserve Bank evidence and investment reporting support different approvals, while an investor permit does not authorise unrelated employment.

Company incorporation does not establish the investor’s immigration status
Foreign investors preparing to operate a business in Fiji should plan immigration permission alongside their company and investment-reporting obligations. The Ministry of Immigration’s investor application guidance identifies company registration, a tax identification number, available funds and confirmation of share issuance among the requirements. This current guide explains the separate processes; it does not announce a new November investment visa.
The ministry says a new principal applicant must be over 18 and provide the prescribed investor documents. Its checklist includes a company request explaining the business, investment need, relevant experience and stakeholder contributions. Evidence about the company and the individual therefore needs to be consistent: being recorded as a shareholder does not by itself establish that the permit has been approved.
The application guidance permits inclusion of a spouse and dependent children on the same form, with the relevant relationship, identity and medical evidence. Their presence should be addressed expressly rather than assumed from the principal investor’s company records. Obtain the current checklist for the actual family composition before submitting.
Three-month reporting and capital remittance are separate obligations
Investment Fiji’s Facilitation, Aftercare and Policy Advocacy resource says foreign investors must provide an update on their investment activity within three months of business or company incorporation. It attributes that requirement to the Investment (Foreign Investors Reporting) Regulations 2022 and provides a submission form. The trigger is incorporation, not the date a person first reads the guidance or receives an immigration decision.
The same resource separately says the reserved and restricted activities regulations require foreign investors to remit $300,000 within three months of incorporation. It describes a ministerial waiver mechanism based on an economic or skills assessment and provides a waiver-request form. A waiver is a decision to request and substantiate; it should not be assumed merely because an applicant considers the business beneficial.
Keep the two submissions distinct. An activity report tells the investment authority what the company has done; a waiver request seeks relief from a particular investment requirement. Neither is the investor’s immigration application. If the incorporation deadline is approaching, use Investment Fiji’s named reporting and waiver resources to establish what must be lodged rather than wait for every other approval to conclude.
Reserve Bank approval answers a different regulatory question
The Reserve Bank of Fiji’s exchange-control guidelines effective 1 January 2026 identify approval requirements for issuing and transferring shares or capital involving foreign investors, with a specific delegation for non-resident investment on the South Pacific Stock Exchange and through licensed brokers. The applicable transaction needs to be identified; an ordinary operating-company investment should not automatically be treated as a stock-exchange transaction.
This helps explain Immigration’s request for confirmation of share issuance and its extension requirement for an update on offshore remittances. Ask the company’s responsible person to match the applicant, ownership record and funds trail across the investment and immigration files. A bank transfer demonstrates movement of money, while approval or confirmation addresses the relevant regulatory requirement.
The Reserve Bank’s exchange-control eService FAQ provides a further action resource for lodging requests and understanding references. It distinguishes an application number from a permit number assigned to an approved request. An outstanding exchange-control application should therefore not be described as an approval in an immigration file. Establish the actual status before representing that a prerequisite has been completed.
Read the permit conditions and budget the separate charges
The ministry’s published investor terms prohibit business activity outside the company’s registered or licensed activities and prohibit taking a separate profession or employment, whether paid or unpaid. They also restrict research and full-time study, and require written approval for religious vocation. An investor permit should not be marketed as unrestricted permission to work in any Fiji role.
The terms say the permission is deemed expired if the holder ceases to be the investor described in the permit. A share sale, change of role or withdrawal from the business therefore requires an immigration check before relying on the remaining printed validity. Further written conditions can also be imposed on the individual permit.
The investor application page lists FJ$650.05 for a new application and says issuance and bond charges are payable after approval. Those later amounts are not established as one universal total in the material reviewed. Confirm them in the decision and current payment instructions. No guaranteed investor-permit processing period was verified. The practical sequence is to reconcile incorporation dates, report and remittance obligations, ownership approval and immigration evidence, then check the approved activities before beginning operations.
