Use the student service identified by the local prefecture
The prefecture of French Guiana lists student residence permission among the procedures available through the Administration Numérique pour les Étrangers en France, or ANEF. Its local guidance also provides an appointment route for assistance with an online file. Students should distinguish help using the platform from an appointment that replaces an application in the required electronic service.
This is current procedural guidance, not an announcement of a new student category on 2 November 2026. Begin with the prefecture’s page on residence appointments and online procedures, identify the student service and use the linked official assistance booking if needed. The page also identifies [email protected] for local contact. A technical-support appointment is useful when filing is blocked, but should not be treated as evidence that an application has already been lodged or approved.
Prepare the electronic file and monitor the account
The Interior Ministry’s ANEF explanation says covered procedures are completed online, with the personal account allowing applicants to follow progress. The platform accepts supporting material in formats including PDF documents and photographs taken by phone. The ministry says the platform works on a computer, tablet or smartphone; choose a device on which the supporting evidence remains legible. Prepare readable copies and use the actual account prompts to identify the required evidence for the chosen procedure, rather than uploading an unrelated checklist.
The ministry distinguishes electronic submission from the remaining physical steps: applicants may still need fingerprint collection if not previously completed, and a visit to collect the residence card. It also identifies the Centre de Contact Citoyens and the platform’s contact form for technical assistance, with prefectural digital-access points available for people who need help using the service. Use the national ANEF resource for platform support and the French Guiana prefecture’s instructions for local arrangements. Neither source makes a successful account login equivalent to a completed residence decision.
Read the title of the document issued after submission
Service Public distinguishes three digital documents. The immediate attestation de dépôt confirms online submission, but it is not a temporary residence document and does not establish lawful stay. It also does not authorise employment. A student should therefore read the document’s actual heading before giving it to an employer, university or other organisation as proof of status.
For a complete application filed within the prescribed period, the attestation de prolongation d’instruction is the provisional document that establishes lawful stay while examination continues. Service Public describes a maximum validity of three months, renewable by the prefecture while a decision remains pending. An attestation de décision favorable likewise establishes lawful stay following approval. Use that official explanation to distinguish the papers and check the expiry on the document actually received. If only the submission acknowledgement is available while existing permission approaches expiry, contact the relevant service promptly about the file and appropriate provisional evidence.
Prepare the renewal timetable, finances and academic records
The current national student guide says renewal applications should be submitted no earlier than four months and no later than two months before the existing visa or permit expires. It requires enrolment or pre-enrolment and financial evidence, currently stated as at least €877.50 monthly, assessed against the applicant’s circumstances. Scholarship evidence, recent payslips, support documentation or a sufficient bank balance may be relevant according to the source of funds.
The guide also identifies academic records, the latest qualification or success certificate and the signed commitment to respect the Republic’s principles. Prepare these records before the filing window closes; access to the platform does not remove the evidence requirements. Its ordinary student-renewal section quotes €100 in tax and stamp duty, with a further €180 regularisation charge for late renewal unless an exception applies. Other permit options have their own fee entries. Use the relevant branch of the official guide and the prefecture’s instructions before buying tax stamps or assuming one charge covers every case.
