French Southern Territories list 15 November deadline for 2027 technical missions

The approaching deadline concerns a work assignment, not general migration
The French Southern and Antarctic Lands administration, TAAF, currently lists technical vacancies with a 15 November 2026 application deadline for missions planned in 2027. Its aluminium-joinery position concerns Kerguelen and Crozet, requires at least three years of relevant experience and requests a detailed CV and motivation letter. The indicative programme includes departure aboard Marion Dufresne on 16 March 2027, approximately five months on district and a return on 6 September, subject to the ship’s final rotation arrangements.
This is a deadline follow-up for people considering an isolated work deployment. The vacancies page identifies the application channel and required subject line for each position. It does not announce an unrestricted immigration programme, guarantee selection or make the provisional sailing dates a public passenger service. Applicants should identify the exact position before submitting; different vacancies have different locations, duties and closing dates.
Check the contract route and capacity to remain for the whole mission
TAAF’s Contractuel guidance explains that district assignments generally last six to eight months without the possibility of returning during the stay. Recruitment is principally, but not exclusively, from Réunion. A person living elsewhere should therefore distinguish the recruitment geography from any separate nationality, residence or travel-document question and request clarification relevant to their own circumstances.
The same official resource says recruitment depends on medical and psychological fitness testing and examination of criminal-record information. Sending a CV is not the final deployment clearance. Applicants should account for those stages before making arrangements that assume a confirmed departure. The page also distinguishes Terre Adélie: contractual recruitment there, apart from the district-chief role, is handled by the French Polar Institute, IPEV. A dossier intended for that route should go to the responsible organisation rather than being treated as interchangeable with a TAAF district application.
Selected personnel have a separate customs and preparation dossier
The official Preparing your mission page is expressly addressed to people already recruited for Crozet, Kerguelen and Amsterdam. It applies across contractual, military, civil-service, volunteer and internship statuses and explains the maritime-only service to these isolated districts. Its practical value begins after selection: it links the wintering guide and separate descriptions of conditions on the three districts so personnel can prepare for their actual destination.
The page also supplies documents to return, including a packing inventory, customs declaration, receipt, declaration concerning prohibited goods and direct customs-representation mandate. Personnel are told to download, read and sign the listed internet, environmental and harassment-prevention charters. These are operational documents, not substitutes for a passport or visa. Use the linked package and the recruiting team’s instructions to establish which originals or signed copies are required and their return deadlines. The page does not set one universal submission date for every recruited person.
Foreign recruits must resolve any required visa before deployment
TAAF’s visa procedure states that the territories are outside both the European Union’s territory and the Schengen area. Where a visa is required, the administrator’s agreement must precede its issue. The agreement should be requested at least two months before arrival; the diplomatic or consular authority may request a shorter period for an urgent case. Selection for work should therefore not be read as evidence that the consular stage has already been completed.
After agreement, applicants ordinarily approach the embassy or consulate in their country of residence; the TAAF resource separately describes prefecture procedures for people in metropolitan France. Its legal extract excludes diplomatic agents and career consuls from the relevant chapter. Ordinary recruits should have their nationality and residence position assessed through the stated procedure. The reviewed recruitment material does not confirm a universal application fee or a nationality-wide exemption, and no such fee or exemption should be inferred from the vacancy notice.
Plan freight cleaning alongside the travel paperwork
TAAF’s biosafety resource explains that technical and scientific equipment, materials, packaging, supplies and personal movements can introduce invasive species. Freight is meticulously cleaned before import to the southern districts, with controls throughout the supply chain. A selected worker bringing tools should obtain packing and cleaning instructions before dispatch, rather than assuming that new or professionally used equipment is automatically acceptable.
The useful sequence is consequently specific: apply by the vacancy deadline, complete selection and fitness requirements, then coordinate any required visa, signed preparation documents and clean freight with TAAF. The latest individual deployment instructions should settle outstanding costs and logistical dates; neither an application acknowledgement nor a provisional ship schedule establishes permission to embark.
