Gabon residence-card files differ from certificates proving a home address
A current guide to DGDI documents separates residence permission, address evidence and the electronic services available for renewals and tracking.

Identify whether the required document is permission or address evidence
Foreign residents in Gabon should check whether an administration is requesting a residence card or a certificate of residence. The DGDI publishes separate forms for these documents, and the address-certificate form requires foreign applicants to provide a valid residence-card copy. This current guide explains the distinction; it does not report a new November policy. Obtaining evidence of an address cannot replace the immigration permission on which that evidence may depend.
The residence-card form distinguishes a first request from renewal and asks for identity, family, occupation, travel and residence information. Its general supporting list includes legalised accommodation evidence, the host’s identity copy and the latest SEEG utility bill. It displays a 150,000 CFA-franc card charge for two-year validity, plus a nationality-related deposit. Because the form is undated, confirm the current tariff and any applicable deposit exemption with DGDI before payment; the displayed card amount is not necessarily the complete cost.
Build the file around the applicant’s actual basis of stay
The card form has different supporting evidence for private employees, public-sector contractual staff, independent workers and family members. Private employment requires legalised employment evidence and employer-related records; independent activity requires commercial approval and evidence of the required administrative formalities. A family member of a resident is directed to marriage or family records and the sponsoring resident’s valid card. Use the card form to identify the relevant documentary route rather than substituting another household member’s evidence.
The separate address-certificate form asks for the completed request, a valid resident-card copy for foreigners, the latest SEEG bill, two recent colour photographs and 10,000 CFA francs. A hosted applicant must additionally provide the host’s sworn declaration, identity copy and the accommodation’s latest utility bill in the host’s name. The form records the place of residence and how long the applicant has lived there. Those fields concern the address being certified, not an additional period of immigration leave.
Use the electronic service for renewal and tracking
DGDI’s electronic-services portal provides a residence-card renewal service alongside separate passport, identity-card and visa functions. It also advertises online status checking for requests lodged electronically or at DGDI branches. Readers should select the residence-card function for renewal, retaining the original application reference to follow the correct record. A status enquiry is a way to check an existing request, not a fresh application or proof that the document has already been issued.
The portal also offers a complaints service, with submission, tracking and notifications. This is the appropriate operational resource when an applicant needs to raise a service problem or follow an unresolved case. It identifies DGDI in Libreville’s Oloumi industrial area and publishes contact telephone numbers. The portal does not establish a universal residence-renewal processing guarantee or an automatic extension while a request is under examination. Ask DGDI how to document lawful stay before the current card expires.
Keep visitor extensions separate from settlement
The official e-visa service directs people intending to settle to DGDI’s residence guidance. Its visitor-extension instructions allow a one-month visa to be extended by two months or a two-month visa by one month; the listed three-month and six-month visas are not extendable under that guidance. These are visitor rules and should not be treated as a method of obtaining a residence card. Use the visa service to establish whether the existing visitor document can be extended at all.
The same service confines its electronic visa route to air arrivals through Libreville’s Léon Mba airport and warns applicants not to travel without the required authorisation or before the declared arrival date. Anyone planning settlement should therefore resolve both the entry route and subsequent residence formalities. None of the linked forms establishes a general right to work merely because an address certificate has been issued, and the material does not supply a universal filing deadline for every residence category. Confirm those points against the applicant’s own status before making employment or travel commitments.
