Guinea visa applicants must wait for approval, not just an application receipt
The official online process separates acknowledgment, approval and biometric collection on arrival. Travellers should also check the documents for their purpose and any longer stay.

An acknowledgment is not the entry-approval letter
Travellers applying online for a Guinean visa should distinguish the email confirming submission from the subsequent approval letter. Guinea’s Service Public visa instructions describe these as separate stages: an acknowledgment follows submission, while the entry letter is sent once the application is approved. A receipt therefore shows that a file has been submitted, not that the authorities have authorised the journey.
The government instructions then direct approved applicants to the visa counter at Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport, where a photograph and fingerprints are collected before the visa is obtained. This current-procedure guide was checked on 2 November 2026. It describes the existing procedure. Travellers should retain the approval communication with their travel records and plan for the arrival procedure. The public service page does not specify a processing estimate, stating that the actual interval depends on the file and the number of pending applications.
Check the passport, purpose and supporting records
The border police’s official visa portal is the application resource linked by Service Public. Its published conditions include a passport valid for at least six months, a scanned identity page, a valid return ticket and a yellow-fever certificate. It also identifies purpose-specific evidence: an approved employment contract for salaried work, professional authorisation where required, family-relationship evidence, student registration or an internship agreement.
This means that a business meeting, employment, study and joining relatives should not be described interchangeably on the application. A document appropriate to one purpose does not establish permission for another. The portal says visa-waiver countries are excepted from the visa requirement, so readers should check their issuing nationality through the official selector rather than assume either universal exemption or universal obligation. It also states that paying and applying does not guarantee approval and that processing charges are retained even if the request is refused. No universal fee amount was confirmed on the cited public page.
French travellers have an additional consular checklist
France Diplomatie’s Guinea entry guidance, updated on 15 September 2026, directs travellers to submit the online application from their departure location. Its checklist includes an identity photograph, passport scan, vaccination evidence, accommodation booking or a host’s invitation with identification, and an invitation or mission order for professional travel. French travellers can use this resource to prepare the supporting evidence before completing the Guinean application.
The French page also refers to Covid vaccination evidence, while the Guinean portal’s visible conditions identify yellow-fever certification without resolving the same Covid requirement. Applicants should ask the Guinean authority what applies to their actual journey rather than infer that silence on one page removes a requirement listed elsewhere. Accommodation and business invitations should reflect the real itinerary and purpose. The French guidance confirms biometric enrolment at Conakry airport; an online approval does not remove that arrival step.
Deal with residence and work requirements before the stay expires
The Guinean Security Ministry’s user-services page distinguishes temporary visits of up to 90 days from longer residence. Its published provisions say a foreign national must obtain the appropriate residence document after three months or leave, with a filing receipt potentially replacing the card provisionally. That local residence process should not be confused with the initial online visa application or its submission email.
The ministry also distinguishes visitor, student, employed-person and family residence categories. Its entry provisions identify limited exceptions concerning repatriation guarantees and work-authorisation evidence for qualifying spouses and minor children joining a lawfully resident relative; they do not establish a general exemption from all immigration requirements. A person planning employment or an extended stay should contact the border police about the appropriate residence and work documentation while the existing permission remains valid. The relevant dates are the authorised stay and the individual document expiry, rather than a fixed November deadline. The cited resources do not establish a guaranteed extension outcome or a standard processing time for residence.
