Select the student service that matches the stage of travel
Guyana's government service catalogue describes a student landing permit as permission to arrive in the country to study. That is a different application stage from extending student status after arrival. This current procedural guide explains the distinction using Immigration Support Services resources; it does not announce a new November rule or suggest that enrolment alone authorises entry or an extended stay.
The ministry's live eServices catalogue separately offers Student Visa and Landing Permit services, including a student-specific landing page. An applicant preparing to travel should start with the government catalogue's Landing Permit for Student entry and follow its official application link. A student already in Guyana should establish whether the required action is an extension or multiple-entry permission, rather than submitting another pre-arrival request. The reviewed guidance does not publish a blanket exemption for every visa-free nationality from these student-status procedures.
Prepare the sponsor and institution records before submission
The landing-permit guidance requires a request stating the intended arrival date, duration and entry port, together with the student's passport biodata, birth certificate and photograph. It also identifies the sponsor's passport information and photograph, financial support and the institution's business registration, income-tax and National Insurance Scheme records. Those institution documents need to be obtained from the school; a student's acceptance correspondence does not itself supply the listed registration and compliance evidence.
The government catalogue says police clearance and the medical report apply from age eighteen. The live student landing page also lists a certificate of character. Ask Immigration which records satisfy the individual case rather than assuming that one document replaces every listed item. The catalogue gives an approximate one-month processing period and does not publish a specific landing-permit fee. That absence is not confirmation that permission is free or that a decision will arrive before a particular flight.
Use the active portal and preserve the application reference
The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the digitised Immigration Support Services platform on 7 October 2025. That announcement identifies electronic applications for student and other visa categories, including extensions, and explains that applicants can register, upload supporting records and pay at the ministry or through Mobile Money Guyana. It is the background to the present online route, not a newly launched service in November 2026.
The same announcement says walk-in applicants can use a dedicated system at Immigration Support Services, with staff guidance available. People unable to complete the process independently online therefore have an identified official assistance route. It does not say that arriving at the counter removes document requirements or guarantees a same-day decision.
The live student landing page accepts PDF, JPEG, JPG and PNG uploads and requires English translations for records in other languages. After submission it provides a reference for status checks. Its ten-minute estimate concerns completing the form, not deciding the immigration application. Retain that reference and use its published assistance number, +592 223-5210, for a technical problem with submission.
An extension needs the existing immigration history
The ministry's Student Visa extension and multiple-entry form asks for the course dates, institution, previous study, date of entry, duration granted on arrival and last extension or multiple-entry permission. Its supporting list requires the entire passport, including entry stamps, an acceptance letter, financial evidence and a sponsor's request. Use those existing stamps and permissions to identify the period actually granted; the course's completion date is not a substitute for the immigration record.
The published extension form quotes GYD28,700, with US$140 shown alongside, and describes a three-year extension period. Confirm the current payment instructions and period applicable to the requested extension through Immigration Support Services, since that older form predates the digital platform and contains legacy processing instructions. It also expressly requires a separate application for a spouse or another adult relative. Listing relatives in the student's form does not grant them status. Arrange the correct application before existing permission expires; the reviewed resources do not establish automatic continued permission merely because an application is pending.
