Honduras

Honduras students must separate special-stay permits, pending extensions and card renewal

Current official procedures identify the student evidence, explain distinct online services and leave a fee discrepancy that applicants should resolve before payment.

The student category depends on admission and maintenance evidence

Honduras offers a special permission to remain for foreign students, covering studies at national educational levels or a professional placement under Article 44 of the published migration regulation. Admission evidence and means of support are central to the category. For a minor, the regulation also requires a commitment from the person or organisation responsible for the stay. This is current explanatory reporting, not a newly opened November route.

The legal category should match the actual activity. A person undertaking a professional placement should have the host institution describe that purpose accurately rather than submit an unrelated employment file. The regulation also prohibits exercising activities other than those expressly authorised. A student permission should therefore not be treated as unrestricted permission to work merely because the holder is lawfully present.

Prepare the specific checklist before arranging submission

INM’s Extranjeros Estudiantes checklist requests an application addressed to the executive director, representation documents, the prescribed photograph, criminal-record evidence, a medical certificate issued within the preceding six months and an authenticated passport copy. It also requests the institution’s admission confirmation and evidence of subsistence and responsibility for the foreign student’s stay and departure when studies end.

For minors, the checklist adds parental authorisation and a birth record; where parents undertake financial responsibility, it asks for their foreign-resident cards. Foreign-issued documents require the stated legalisation and official translation arrangements. Use the student-specific PDF to allocate tasks between the applicant, parents, educational institution and legal representative. A generic list for all special-permission categories may contain company or employment documents that do not describe a student case. The checklist is an official published resource, but it should not be represented as a newly issued 2026 rule.

Resolve the published fee difference before making the payment

The student-specific INM checklist lists USD 50 for each person for each year of the special permission, converted to national currency, plus HNL 200 for certification. By contrast, the government’s general Special Permission and Renewal service record, number 540, lists USD 100 per year and HNL 200 for certification. That is a material difference, not a reliable basis for choosing the cheaper amount without confirmation.

Use service record 540 and the student checklist to ask INM for the assessed amount applicable to the specific student category and payment period. Stamps and other document costs also need separate attention. The reviewed pages do not resolve whether the general amount supersedes the student figure or simply describes other categories. No universal all-inclusive application price is asserted here.

A pending application and an existing card use different online services

INM’s online service requirements distinguish a stay-extension request while a special-permission or residence application is pending from renewal of the foreign-resident card. For the pending-case extension, the page lists passport details, the application receipt, the last-entry stamp and a paid TGR-1 receipt for USD 20 for thirty days or USD 40 for sixty days, or the local-currency equivalent. It also asks for the completed request and, where applicable, representative evidence.

For card renewal linked to special permission, it asks for the renewal request, paid TGR, the complete permit certification and both sides of the existing card. The upload is a PDF no larger than one megabyte. Supporting category documents marked optional online become required when collecting the card according to the page. Keep these services distinct: paying for an extension during consideration does not itself establish approval of the underlying student permission.

Track the decision, registration and individual expiry separately

The published migration regulation requires registration in the National Register of Foreigners within thirty days following issue of the relevant resolution certification. The government service record separately describes review, decision, notification and certification stages. An acknowledgement of receiving the file is therefore not the final certified decision.

Before the current stay or document expires, establish whether the needed action is an initial student application, a pending-case extension, permit renewal or card renewal. Retain the issued decisions and receipts and obtain the correct fee assessment. No guaranteed completion time or automatic permission arising solely from filing is confirmed by the reviewed resources; the applicant should coordinate the case through INM’s published service channels.
