Check whether the express payment has already been made

Jersey’s express passport service ends on 9 November 2026. Applicants who already paid may submit until 30 November; later files receive standard processing without an express-fee refund. The renewal page announces a new online service from 16 November, expecting most applications within three weeks. These dates do not extend passport validity or guarantee delivery for an individual journey.

The legislation distinguishes fully online and paper fees

The States Assembly’s explanation of the Immigration Fees Amendment Order says the order was made on 20 August 2026. Its first fee changes took effect on 1 September, while the fully online passport-fee provisions commence on 16 November. Paper application fees remain at the September levels; the new fully online route introduces lower fees.

The Assembly explanation also says that the return-of-supporting-documents fee ends from 16 November and emergency passport applications remain paper-only. A person comparing costs should therefore identify the submission route and date. A payment made under the existing process should not be assumed to migrate automatically to the new service or to create a refund entitlement that the transition notice does not provide.

Current prices and delivery estimates need a separate check

The government’s fee page currently lists GBP 115.50 for an adult standard passport and GBP 80 for a child, with express prices of GBP 192 and GBP 156.50 respectively. It lists GBP 2.75 for recorded return of original supporting documents. Those published existing-service charges should be read alongside the Assembly’s forthcoming November changes rather than described as the future online prices.

The fee page recommends applying at least ten weeks before travel and avoiding bookings until the new passport is received. It describes standard processing as approximately thirty working days, with some current applications arriving in twenty working days, and express processing as around ten working days. These estimates concern the existing service, while the renewal page describes the forthcoming online target. Demand, further document checks and autumn or winter ferry disruption can affect delivery.

Do not confuse today’s online form with the coming service

The renewal page’s existing instructions still require printing and signing an emailed application and receipt, with photographs and supporting records. This does not mean the fully online workflow has launched. Follow the actual service’s instructions and check for changes on 16 November.

Paper forms remain available from the Passport Office. Applicants living abroad generally use GOV.UK’s overseas route; applying through Jersey from the UK depends on Jersey birth. Establish the correct jurisdiction before preparing the file.

Prepare photographs and the right identity witness

Jersey’s printed-photo page requires two identical new photographs taken within the last month, professionally printed, in colour and unaltered. They should show the full head and upper shoulders against cream or light grey, with no shadows, neutral expression and visible eyes. Photographs are 45 millimetres high by 35 millimetres wide. Children under six have expression exceptions and babies under one need not have their eyes open.

The separate countersignatory page identifies first adult, child, lost or damaged replacement and unrecognisable-appearance renewal applications as cases requiring a witness signature. It requires an adult holding a current British passport, resident in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man, who has known the relevant person for two years and meets its standing or profession test. Relatives, people in a personal relationship and people at the same address cannot act. The witness checks the form and certifies one photograph; a photograph provider is not automatically an eligible witness.

Use the Passport Office for unresolved transition cases

The government’s passport pages list 01534 448000 and [email protected] for queries. Ask specifically how an already-paid application, missing supporting record or urgent travel date is handled across the November transition. No individual completion date or automatic transfer between services was verified. Keep payment evidence and follow the applicable submission instructions before the express deadline if relying on that paid service.
