Jordan electronic visas and tourist passes require separate eligibility checks

This current guide distinguishes Jordan’s immediate electronic visa, prior approval and tourist-pass fee relief, including conflicting official minimum-stay wording.

Identify whether prior approval is required

Visitors to Jordan should distinguish an immediate electronic visa from a visitor application requiring prior approval and from a tourist pass that can waive certain fees. These are separate decisions. This current guide explains existing services and unresolved differences between official pages; it does not present the electronic system as a new October announcement.

The Interior Ministry electronic-visa page serves eligible visitors who do not require prior approval. It also describes conditional access for specified nationality groups holding qualifying foreign residence or a Schengen or United States visa. Its detailed conditions refer to at least six months of validity and a return ticket where departure is by air. Use the linked eligibility lists and your actual documents before assuming that a foreign visa removes prior approval in every case.

Prepare the visitor-approval documents when that route applies

The Ministry’s separate visitor-visa service is for travellers outside Jordan whose nationality requires prior approval. It asks for a copy of the visitor’s passport or travel document valid for at least six months. Where the visitor lives outside their country of origin, it requests a copy of that residence permission valid for at least six months.

Additional documents depend on who applies: a non-Jordanian sponsor’s passport, the applicant or sponsor’s Jordanian residence where applicable, or a valid business licence for an institutional application. Use this service checklist to identify the appropriate evidence rather than uploading a tourism-pass receipt as proof of entry permission. The page describes printing the approval notice before travelling; it does not establish a universal approval time for every nationality or case.

Choose the visa duration and number of entries deliberately

The immediate electronic-visa tariff lists JOD40 for a three-month single-entry visa, JOD60 for three months and two entries, JOD120 for six-month multiple entry, JOD200 for one-year multiple entry and JOD350 for five-year multiple entry. It separately lists JOD110 for the five-year multiple-entry option for United States nationality. These are visa fees, not prices for sightseeing passes.

The Ministry’s explanation of the 2023 visa-system amendment distinguishes the visa’s period of use from the earlier requirement to use it within two months of issuance. It says the longer visas remain usable through their validity. That reform is historical context, not a change taking effect today. Check both the document’s entry validity and the stay authorised at the border; a five-year visa should not be read as five years of uninterrupted residence.

A Jordan Pass is not a visa or a universal fee exemption

The Tourism Ministry’s Jordan Pass FAQ expressly says the pass is not a visa. It describes relief for a single-entry visa fee, rather than multiple-entry visa charges, and requires purchase before arrival. Its own nationality and border conditions also matter. A traveller who needs advance immigration approval should resolve that requirement independently before relying on the pass.

Official pages currently disagree on the qualifying stay: the pass prices page says at least three nights, or four days, while the FAQ repeatedly says two nights, or three days. The reviewed pages do not give a clear effective date reconciling those statements. Travellers planning a two-night visit should obtain confirmation from the pass service before budgeting on an exemption. This report cannot establish that the shorter condition applies to their arrival.

Match the official resource to the next action

Use the Interior Ministry electronic-visa page for the applicable category, price and official payment channels. Use its visitor-approval checklist if advance approval is needed, and its electronic-services guidance to register, select a service and monitor an application through the account. Keep the application number: the Ministry says it is needed when attending an embassy if a personal interview is required.

For illustration, someone choosing a multiple-entry visa for repeated trips should compare that product with the planned journeys rather than expect a sightseeing pass to waive its fee. Someone planning a single tourist visit must check nationality eligibility, any supporting foreign permission, and the disputed pass stay condition separately. Complete the applicable permission before travel and retain the issued document; a payment confirmation or pass purchase alone does not settle the immigration decision.
