Jordan students need separate institutional applications for entry visas and annual residence
Current Ministry of Interior guidance places student visa and annual-residence applications with educational institutions. New arrivals should also check whether the 14-day biometric-reporting rule applies.

Arrange the study-entry application while still outside Jordan
International students starting a course in Jordan should ask their educational institution to arrange the appropriate study-entry procedure, rather than treat a tourist admission as the complete immigration process. The Ministry of Interior’s Study Visa service is expressly reserved for Jordanian educational institutions and requires the student to be outside Jordan. This is an explanation of the published procedure, not an announcement of a new student visa or a universal exemption.
The ministry requests a passport or travel-document copy with at least six months’ validity and evidence of student status. Where the applicant lives in a country of which they are not a national, it also requests a residence-permit copy covering at least six months. Ask the institution which evidence it will upload and verify the name, passport number and intended travel dates before submission. The service links the visa-exempt-country list, so the institution should check nationality and document type instead of assuming every foreign student requires identical prior approval.
Annual student residence is a second administrative stage
The separate Study Residence service covers issuing and renewing annual residence for foreign students under the educational institution’s sponsorship. It excludes nationalities exempt from the residence law. Its checklist requests the passport and latest entry stamp, proof of student status and, for renewal, the previous residence document. Travel-document holders face an additional requirement concerning residence in, and return to, the country from which they arrived.
The residence page states that the approval may be used within six months of approval. That is a period for using the approval, rather than evidence that every student receives six months of lawful stay from whatever date they choose. Ask the institution what further completion step remains and which document establishes the actual authorised period. Keep the latest entry endorsement available after arrival: the checklist specifically asks for it, so an overseas admission letter cannot replace every item needed for the residence application.
Track the electronic case and distinguish service charges from guarantees
The ministry’s English E Services guide explains account registration, service selection and monitoring through the applicant’s account. It recognises educational institutions as an account category. If an overseas personal interview is required, the applicant should take the electronic application number to the nearest Jordanian embassy. Use this guide to identify the official online channel and to establish whether an institutional submission or a consular appointment is the current outstanding action.
The general guide lists a JOD2 electronic-service allowance per invited person and refers separately to financial guarantees, while preserving exempt categories. It does not establish that every student must pay every charge listed for the wider system. Request the actual assessment for the selected study service before payment, and distinguish any refundable or conditional guarantee from a service fee. Electronic approval messages should be retained with the application number; successful account registration or payment does not itself grant residence.
Check post-arrival reporting before the fourteenth day
The UK government’s Jordan entry guidance says travel for study or work requires an advance visa rather than the tourism procedure. It also describes biometric reporting for people staying over 14 days who entered after 1 October 2025: report within 14 days to the nearest police station with a residency-extension office for fingerprints and an iris scan. It lists annual-residency holders, tourists, pilgrims and transit travellers as exceptions, with a JOD200 departure fine for those who fail to report when required.
A newly arrived student still awaiting annual residence should therefore establish whether an exception actually applies, instead of assuming that enrolment alone provides one. The UK resource is written for British citizen passport holders; other nationals should confirm their position with the institution and Jordanian authorities. No universal student decision deadline or complete fee total is established by these resources. The VisaWand editorial team edited and checked this guide. The practical sequence is to confirm the overseas study application, preserve arrival evidence, complete the institutional residence procedure and resolve any immediate reporting requirement.
