Kazakhstan Neo Nomad applicants must check income evidence and invitation exemptions

Current guidance distinguishes the B12-1 remote-work visitor route from the B9-1 residence route and explains the documents, family provisions and London fee.

Two similarly named routes serve different purposes

Kazakhstan remote workers should identify the visa category before gathering documents: the B12-1 Neo Nomad permission is not the B9-1 Digital Nomad residence route. This is current application guidance checked on 29 October 2026, not a fresh announcement of either scheme. The distinction affects the reason for travel, supporting evidence and whether the applicant is pursuing a temporary stay or permanent residence.

The Kazakh embassy in the Netherlands describes B12-1 as multiple entry for up to one year while maintaining foreign income. It separately describes B9-1 as intended for sought-after information-technology professionals relocating to obtain permanent residence, with a petition from Astana Hub or an authorized IT-sector body. Use that embassy comparison to select the route; a remote worker should not assume that the word nomad alone establishes eligibility for the residence category.

Foreign income must be supported by documents

The Tourism and Sports Ministry B12-1 guidance asks for six months of bank statements demonstrating monthly income above USD3,000, a tax return from the country of citizenship, a criminal-record certificate from the citizenship or permanent-residence country, and medical insurance covering the visa period. These are distinct evidence requirements. A current bank balance or an employer letter alone should not be treated as a substitute for the complete published package.

The San Francisco consular notice describes stable foreign income of at least USD3,000 monthly and also lists a free-form personal statement explaining the stay. There is a wording difference between at least USD3,000 in that notice and above USD3,000 in ministry instructions. Someone exactly at the threshold should obtain the receiving mission clarification before applying rather than assume that both formulations produce the same decision. This review does not establish how fluctuating earnings or currency conversion will be assessed.

An invitation exemption is narrower than visa eligibility

The Otandastar instructions describe the scheme as open to remote workers from all countries with permanent foreign income, while identifying an invitation exemption for citizens of 48 listed countries. The exemption concerns one document, not exemption from the visa itself or from financial evidence. The list includes the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and several European and Gulf states; applicants should check the full list against their actual nationality.

An illustrative Malaysian passport holder should therefore verify the invitation exemption while still preparing the income, insurance and other evidence. A passport outside the list should not be rejected by assumption solely because an invitation is required; the applicant should ask the issuing mission how to arrange that document. The ministry guidance describes an invitation from a Kazakh travel company. Do not pay an intermediary merely because they claim that every nationality needs the same service.

London applicants have a specific submission process

The London embassy checklist requires a completed application, a recent colour photograph measuring 3.5 by 4.5 centimetres, and a passport with two blank pages valid at least three months beyond the requested visa. It directs applicants to submit in person and does not accept postal applications. Its published multiple-entry fee is GBP170 and is non-refundable. These are London instructions; applicants using another mission must verify that office fee and submission arrangements.

London estimates about five business days from receipt of documents and supplies an appointment-booking link on its checklist page. Use that page to organize the visit before fixing travel dates, allowing time to obtain overseas records and any requested corrections. An estimate is not a guarantee that an incomplete application will be decided within the same period.

Family travel and expiry still need planning

The San Francisco notice says dependants can receive visas for the same duration as the principal holder and describes a possible further year through an application to the Interior Ministry. It also expressly rules out employment by Kazakh companies. Families should confirm each dependant application and supporting relationship documents with the mission, and existing holders should ask about extension procedures before expiry. Neither family coverage nor an extension is automatic merely because the principal applicant has sufficient overseas income.
