The July registration round is closed, but selections continue

I-Kiribati applicants registered in Australia’s 2026–27 Pacific Engagement Visa ballot should monitor their accounts for selection notices and individual application deadlines. Home Affairs’ country-status page shows Kiribati’s registration period opened on 1 July and closed on 29 July 2026. It lists the selection period as 5 August 2026 to 26 February 2027. This 29 October report is a current follow-up, not an announcement of reopened registration.

A closed registration period means new entrants cannot join that round; it does not mean every selection has already been completed. Conversely, the end of the published selection period is not a common deadline for everyone selected. An invited person must use the deadline attached to their own notification rather than wait until February.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade lists one hundred visa places for Kiribati in 2026–27. The programme’s overall allocations include partners and dependent children. The country allocation therefore should not be interpreted as a promise of one hundred successful principal applicants, or a personal guarantee for anyone whose registration was accepted.

Check the account status and preserve the invitation deadline

Home Affairs’ After You Register resource explains the account labels. Received means the ballot registration has been received; Selected means the person has been drawn and must apply by the date in the selection letter. Visa Application Submitted is a further step, not the same as either of those earlier statuses.

The resource gives selected participants 120 calendar days from selection to complete the online visa application. It says a late application cannot be accepted. Keep the email and passport information current through ImmiAccount so the authority can contact you. If a passport changes, notify Home Affairs rather than entering inconsistent identity details without explanation.

For illustration, a family whose notification arrives before another family’s cannot use the later family’s deadline. Write down the date in the actual letter, keep a copy and plan evidence collection against that date.

Arrange the job requirement without missing the application window

The Pacific Engagement stream visa page requires evidence that the main applicant or included partner has ongoing employment offered in Australia. It explains that finding a job can take time and says someone without the offer at lodgement should provide it as soon as possible afterwards. Applicants must still submit within the invitation deadline.

The government provides free support connecting applicants with employers. Kiribati’s official support-service page lists local information sessions about applications, employment preparation and moving costs. Use that country resource to reach the designated team and check the current session arrangements. Receiving job-search assistance does not guarantee that an employer will make an offer or that the visa will be approved.

Gather identity, family and supporting evidence early

The Home Affairs document checklist identifies police certificates from countries where each applicant has lived for twelve months or more during the relevant ten-year period since age sixteen. It also identifies the written job offer or employment contract and documents for accompanying family members. Check the full list against each person’s history instead of assuming the principal applicant’s documents cover everyone.

The checklist provides several ways to address English proficiency, including specified educational or work history, a qualifying test, or the published undertaking to enrol in the Adult Migrant English Program. Confirm the applicable evidence route. It also requires English translations alongside original non-English documents and says health examinations should be arranged after the visa application has been made.

These requirements take different amounts of preparation. Start obtaining existing identity and relationship records while following the official instructions on when to arrange health checks; an invitation does not waive the remaining visa criteria.

Separate ballot payment, visa charges and lawful stay

DFAT describes the ballot registration charge as AUD 25. The separate visa page lists a starting visa application cost of AUD 345, so the earlier ballot payment is not the complete visa charge. Confirm the amount for the actual application and accompanying family before paying, and retain the transaction reference.

Home Affairs’ post-registration guidance also warns that ballot registration is not a visa application and does not create a bridging visa. An I-Kiribati registrant already in Australia must separately maintain lawful status. Waiting for selection should not be treated as permission to stay beyond an existing visa.
