Liberia’s London embassy tells passport applicants to use the central application service

The Liberian embassy in London currently displays a passport-section closure notice. Applicants should check whether they qualify for remote renewal or need an appointment at an operating application centre.

Check the London service before sending a passport

Liberians in the United Kingdom should confirm the available passport route before sending documents to the embassy. Its consular-services page says that passports are not issued at the embassy and directs applicants to the central Liberian passport service. The same page displays an undated notice that the passport section is temporarily closed because of technical difficulties, with a further announcement promised when services resume.

This reports the displayed notice; its commencement date is not specified. The embassy page helps readers check the local service position and obtain consular contact details. Its advertised ordinary visa timetable and same-day document services should not be mistaken for a promise to produce a Liberian passport. Contact the embassy to establish what assistance it can currently provide before making a journey or dispatching original documents. Its London contact telephone is 0207 388 5489 and the listed email address is [email protected].

Establish whether remote renewal fits the applicant

The Liberian embassy in Japan publishes a central-service guide that distinguishes a new application from remote renewal. It describes the renewal service as intended for applicants living in countries without a Liberian Passport Application Center who were already at least eighteen at their last in-person application. Being eighteen today is therefore not, by itself, the stated test.

For an ordinary new application, that embassy describes completing the online form, scheduling at a chosen centre, printing the form and confirmation page, and attending with supporting documents. The centre captures the applicant’s photograph, fingerprints and signature. Use its links to identify the appropriate service, then confirm the centre’s operating hours and the applicable appointment requirements. An online form should not be treated as a replacement for attendance where the selected route requires biometric enrolment.

Reconcile the previous passport record and collection arrangements

An older official Pretoria embassy notice explains how the remote renewal process checks existing biometric-passport records. It asks applicants to provide the most recent expired passport number, name, birth date, passport issue and expiry dates, and an updated photograph meeting the displayed standard. The submitted details are matched against the existing record before the photograph is replaced and the document printed.

That notice, published in a 2022 website directory, also describes nominating someone to collect the printed passport from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Liberia, with the collector’s name, telephone number and identification details. Treat that as an explanation of the documented process, then confirm the currently offered collection or delivery option before paying. The Japan embassy’s guide separately mentions a prepaid express return envelope for applicants abroad. Those arrangements should not be assumed to be interchangeable across every application route.

Confirm the route-specific fee and decision timetable

The Foreign Ministry’s domestic steps page asks for a passport photograph and one of several identity or citizenship documents, including a birth certificate, existing passport, travel certificate or citizenship documentation. Its published interview schedule separates adults, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from children, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children must attend with a parent or legal guardian. Submission hours are listed as 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays.

The Foreign Ministry’s own domestic passport-steps page describes a different process: submission followed by an interview, a bank payment slip and a USD 50 payment, with collection estimated at seven to ten working days after payment. That domestic resource helps people applying in Liberia identify the ministry procedure; it does not establish the fee or delivery time for a remote application overseas. The ministry warns against paying unauthorised additional charges.

The reviewed official pages describe different application and delivery processes. Obtain confirmation of the current charge and route before paying, and avoid a non-refundable travel commitment while issuance or delivery remains uncertain. No universal remote-renewal completion deadline was verified in these resources.
