Luxembourg graduate job search requires a 30-day filing plan and financial evidence
The government’s October guidance covers eligible graduates and researchers. A guarantor’s undertaking is only a financial document, while employment-service registration is a separate procedure.

Identify the eligible qualification and file before expiry
Luxembourg’s government guide, updated on 1 October 2026, describes a non-renewable twelve-month residence route for eligible third-country graduates and researchers to seek employment or create a business. The student route concerns a completed Master’s degree or qualifying defended doctorate, rather than every course undertaken in Luxembourg. Researchers must demonstrate successful completion of their research. Eligible mobility participants are also addressed in the guidance.
The application must be filed at least thirty days before the student or researcher permit expires or the authorised mobility period ends. Supporting material includes the full valid passport, a recent Luxembourg criminal-record extract, completion evidence, comprehensive health insurance and sufficient resources. Where completion evidence is not yet available, the procedure provides a receipt allowing a further three months to supply it. Use the Job search or business creation guide to check this situation rather than postponing the entire application until after expiry. The permission is not an indefinitely renewable holding status: a later qualifying work or business residence application must be made before it ends.
Use current financial parameters rather than an old euro example
The residence guide links the resources assessment to eighty per cent of the social inclusion income currently in force. The government’s Social parameters page provides the underlying figures and their operative date. Its present table applies from 1 June 2026, distinguishing adult and household components and other allowances. Applicants should avoid substituting an old fixed euro illustration from a downloaded leaflet for the current assessment.
This matters because indexed social parameters and the residence procedure perform different functions: one supplies current amounts, while the other specifies how they are used in the immigration test. Preserve evidence showing the amount, duration and availability of the funds relied upon. A bank balance, a continuing grant and someone else’s undertaking are different evidential situations. Where a household or funding arrangement makes the calculation unclear, ask the immigration authority to confirm its treatment before assuming that a sum quoted for another year or another household meets the requirement. No universal all-inclusive application cost is established in the current material cited here; confirm the applicable charge separately from living-resource evidence.
A financial guarantor accepts a substantive obligation
The official Financial statement of support form provides an alternative financial-document route involving an eligible guarantor in Luxembourg. The form states that the sponsor must be a Luxembourg national or someone authorised to stay for at least one year. The undertaking covers the supported person’s living, health and return expenses and describes liability to the state. It is therefore more than a character reference or a casual promise to lend money.
The sponsor must have the signature authenticated at the municipality and submit the completed undertaking to immigration for approval. The approved statement must then be used within six months and included with the residence application. Crucially, the form explicitly says approval of the undertaking does not authorise entry or stay and does not predetermine the residence decision. An illustrative graduate using family support should schedule this authentication and approval work before the residence filing deadline. Keep the approved financial document and the residence submission receipt distinct, since they establish different procedural facts.
Employment-service registration does not replace immigration permission
The government’s ADEM registration procedure explains that third-country nationals must satisfy residence and labour-market-access conditions before registering as jobseekers. It gives successful former researchers among its examples, but readers should check their own entitlement rather than assume that every residence document grants identical access. Registration can be made through MyGuichet.lu or by an appointment with a registration counsellor.
The online route requires LuxTrust or an electronic identity card. It allows profile information and supporting documents to be uploaded, while accepted registration leads to a separate initial counselling appointment. Have identification and the Luxembourg national identification number available. An application for unemployment benefits, if applicable, is a further step after opening the jobseeker file; registration alone does not establish benefit entitlement. Use the ADEM guide for employment-service access and the immigration guide for the residence decision. Neither procedure guarantees an employment offer, a particular decision date or permission to continue residing after the authorised search period expires.
