Complete the immigration application before the existing stay ends
Macao’s Public Security Police Force requires non-resident higher-education students to complete their Special Authorization to Stay application before existing permission expires. This guide explains current procedures. Online submission produces an application QR code; present it with the original travel document to complete the process in person.
The Application/Renewal service page sets a specific rule for Mainland students entering with a Type D stay endorsement: complete the procedure within the initially granted stay, which can be at most ninety days. Other-country and other-region students must act before their own Authorization to Stay expires. The listed application is free, with a forty-five-day processing period beginning after the service confirms the required documents are complete. That assessment period should not be mistaken for permission to postpone applying. A student approaching the date on the application receipt without a result should attend the Stay Subdivision immediately to prevent overstaying.
Use the student system rather than a general residence enquiry
The police force’s Immigration Online Systems page identifies an integrated service specifically for non-resident students. It provides application submission, appointments and progress enquiries, alongside a separate institutional area. The same directory lists different enquiry tools for residence authorization and ordinary stay extensions. Choosing the correct tool matters because a student application should be followed through its designated process, rather than searched for in an unrelated residence-case database.
The directory provides telephone 2872 5488, with Macao’s +853 country code, for system enquiries. When seeking help, distinguish a problem submitting the online application from a problem booking an appointment or checking an already accepted case. These are different stages, and a successful appointment booking should not be interpreted as an application decision. Keep the application identifier and appointment details available for the enquiry, while using the official service for any transmission of personal documents. The online directory’s purpose is to route applicants to the relevant service; it does not confer additional days of stay.
Report address changes within forty-five days
The separate Address Update service explains an obligation that continues after authorization is granted. People holding Special Authorization to Stay for more than ninety days must declare their Macao contact address and habitual residence address, subject to the stated statutory exceptions. Changes must be notified within forty-five days, otherwise a penalty may follow. A student who changes accommodation should therefore check the immigration record as well as the university’s accommodation record.
The prescribed document is the Declaration of Contact Address and Habitual Residence Address, DARP/DARP M-1. The service allows the applicant or a legal agent to act; an agent needs a certified authorization letter and identification evidence. Where the person lives in Macao, the habitual address serves as the contact address. Otherwise, the overseas habitual address must also be declared. The update itself is free and normally completed the same day once correctly prepared documents are accepted. These instructions help distinguish a record update from a renewal application: reporting a new address does not extend the authorization’s expiry.
Withdrawal or a course transfer requires a separate immigration step
The Cancellation service says students leaving their original institution because of withdrawal, suspension, early completion, transfer or other reasons must address their student authorization after completing school-leaving formalities. They can attend the Stay Subdivision or authorize the institution to submit their written abandonment declaration. The checklist includes DARP/DARP M-3, identity-document evidence and the last student-authorization slip. Cancellation is free and listed as a same-day service once the documents are accepted.
Students who stop studying must leave within the period granted by the department; the printed expiry of an old student slip should not be treated as a continuing right after cancellation. Transfers to another institution, changes of programme and extensions of programme duration require a new student-authorization application. For illustration, a student moving universities should coordinate both the old institution’s leaving formalities and the new application, rather than merely update a university record. The official page does not promise that a transfer preserves every existing immigration condition, so the department’s granted period and instructions must guide the transition.
