Mayotte study-travel visa applicants must check the 31 October filing window

Deadline follow-up: the prefecture’s published study-visa window has ended, but visible online forms do not establish a late-filing extension or permission to travel.

The published study-visa window ended on 31 October

Foreign residents of Mayotte seeking a visa to continue studies elsewhere in France should check the prefecture’s published annual filing window immediately. Its Étrangers en France guidance says the scholarship and non-scholarship study forms are accessible from 15 June to 31 October of the current year. That stated window has ended for 2026. This is a deadline follow-up, not an announcement of a new application extension.

The two official 2026 procedure pages remained publicly readable when checked and displayed sign-in or start controls. A visible landing page does not establish that a late submission is accepted, that the published deadline has changed or that a draft has been lodged. No verified extension announcement was identified in the resources reviewed.

Applicants who filed should preserve their submission acknowledgement and case reference and follow requests through their existing case. Those with only a draft or no completed submission should contact the named prefectural visa service for instructions. Do not select another visa purpose simply to work around a study-route deadline.

Check whether the Mayotte document authorises the journey

The legal starting point is article L441-8 of the immigration code. It limits most Mayotte-issued residence documents to residence in Mayotte, while expressly excluding several specified categories, including resident cards and certain other statutory statuses. A traveller must therefore identify the exact document and applicable exception rather than assume that every French-issued card has identical territorial reach.

For nationals subject to the relevant visa requirement who hold a document authorising residence only in Mayotte, the article requires special authorisation in visa form for travel to the other covered French departments and territories. This is a different question from whether the person is lawfully resident in Mayotte. Lawful local residence should not be represented as universal permission to relocate.

The code records repeal of this territorial provision from 1 January 2030 under the 2025 Mayotte reform law. That future date does not abolish the restriction in November 2026. Use the current article and the prefecture’s instructions to establish the position for the planned journey, including any exception attached to the individual’s status.

Prepare academic, financial and accommodation evidence

The 2026 study procedure lists a passport with at least six months remaining validity, the current residence card, health or medical-cost insurance evidence, travel booking, academic records and current enrolment documentation. It also asks for late-enrolment permission from 1 October. University permission to enrol late is consequently a separate supporting document; it is not an extension of the prefectural visa application window.

The financial evidence differs by situation. Scholarship holders need their award notification, and the procedure asks for additional support where the scholarship is below €615 monthly. Applicants without a scholarship need supporting undertakings and the specified evidence from the person financing them. Use the appropriate named 2026 procedure to establish the complete attachments rather than assume an informal family promise is sufficient.

Accommodation evidence is also substantive: the procedure distinguishes an allocated university residence from lodging with a private host, for which additional identity, housing and financial records are listed. Establish the actual destination address before filing. A prospective room search should not be described as a confirmed housing allocation in an application.

Resolve late filing and charges with the visa service

The procedure pages identify the prefectural visa service at [email protected] and telephone 02 69 63 52 06. Use that contact for a late-filing or existing-case question, specifying the case reference, study destination and intended travel date. The prefecture separately directs non-study visa requests to an appointment process; that instruction should not be assumed to provide an alternative study filing route.

The forms display stamp-duty amounts differentiated by the date of the residence document, while the prefecture also publishes changes to foreign-national taxes effective from 1 May 2026. The accessible material does not conclusively reconcile every special study-travel charge. Confirm the applicable amount and payment instructions with the visa service before purchasing stamps; do not transfer a general residence tax automatically to this visa.

The immediate actions are to establish submission status, verify the territorial scope of the existing document and obtain instructions if the October window was missed. Neither a university admission letter nor an online draft is a visa. Publicly displayed processing estimates are not an assurance of departure by a chosen date. Wait for the required travel authorisation and check its destination, duration and conditions before relying on it.
