Students applying for a Mozambique visa in Stockholm must allow time for SENAMI approval
Mozambique’s embassy serving the Nordic countries separates immigration authorisation from its own visa-handling period. Applicants should confirm the study category, prepare institutional evidence and wait for the embassy’s payment and passport instructions.

Confirm the study route before using a short-stay exemption
Students applying through Mozambique's embassy in Stockholm should plan for immigration authorisation before the embassy's own handling stage. Its general guidance, updated on 17 September 2026, covers residents of Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway. Nordic residence alone does not establish the entry conditions for every passport.
The general-information page distinguishes tourism, business, work and study. It specifically advises checking the appropriate category for a short study visit, a stay of thirty-one to ninety days or a change of purpose. A short course should therefore not automatically be treated as tourism because its length resembles a holiday.
Use that page to identify the application route, stating nationality, passport type, residence country, purpose, dates and intended stay when seeking clarification. Visa validity and permitted stay are different. This is current guidance, not a newly announced November restriction.
Obtain the institutional and personal evidence
The embassy's student-visa checklist requires an acceptance letter from a recognised Mozambican educational institution, certified by the ministry responsible for education, with the signatory's Mozambican identity or passport copy. It also requests a guarantee letter from the institution where the applicant studies in the Nordic countries, and an institutional agreement where applicable.
Applicants provide a passport identification-page copy, the signed application with a photograph and, for non-Nordic nationals, a valid Nordic residence-document copy. The checklist also calls for a medical certificate and criminal record in Portuguese and a signed undertaking to return to the country of origin after the course.
Prepare evidence of accommodation for at least three months, an up-to-date bank statement and tickets or reservations. Working students have an additional employer-letter requirement. Send the file as scanned PDFs through the stated embassy channel; do not post the original passport until requested. Incomplete applications are not processed, and further documents may be requested.
For Nordic-issued academic records requiring legal effect in Mozambique, consult the embassy's separate legalisation guide. It requires the issuing country's Foreign Ministry signature and seal before embassy legalisation. Check which originals the receiving institution needs before arranging authentication; legalisation has its own submission and payment procedure.
Budget for the separate authorisation and visa-handling stages
The embassy's payment page lists SEK 2,000 for normal processing of a long-stay student, work or residence visa. It describes embassy handling as thirty days. Urgent handling is listed as one week with an additional SEK 500 charge. These are Stockholm service figures, not a worldwide consular tariff.
Those periods begin after the embassy receives the original passport following prior SENAMI authorisation. The fee page expressly excludes that earlier immigration decision and postal transit from its handling times. Paying for urgent service therefore does not guarantee approval or eliminate the time needed to obtain the preceding authorisation.
Wait for the embassy's payment request. Fees are non-refundable; bank transfers require payment evidence. For one or two passports, return postage is SEK 120 within Sweden or SEK 150 elsewhere in the Nordic region. Confirm the total before paying.
Check transit-related health documents before departure
The embassy's yellow-fever page adds an entry-document check that depends on the itinerary, including departure countries and airport stopovers. It says requirements can distinguish age, transit duration and medical circumstances. A direct journey from a Nordic country and a route through a risk country should not be assumed to have identical documentary requirements.
Use that page's linked official travel-health resources and ask the embassy to confirm the certificate requirement for the actual journey. Consult a travel-health professional about vaccination suitability separately: an entry requirement and a medical recommendation answer different questions. The embassy warns against assuming that a medical letter automatically replaces an entry certificate.
Bring the itinerary and vaccination record to a consultation in good time. If a certificate is required, confirm when it becomes valid and carry the original international vaccination certificate. Resolve these checks while the visa file is progressing so that a missing transit-related document does not undermine otherwise completed study arrangements.
