Myanmar business stay extensions require payment and passport stickers after online approval

Current eStay rules set separate deadlines for documents, payment and sticker collection. An approval email alone does not complete the extension or establish permission to leave and return.

Business extensions remain a distinct in-country procedure

Myanmar’s official eStay service allows qualifying business-visa holders to request a longer stay and, where needed, re-entry permission. Its published process has separate application, approval, payment and passport-sticker stages. This is a current procedural guide, not a new November reopening or a statement that tourist visas can be extended through the same service. Applicants must remain in Myanmar from submission until the relevant stickers are affixed.

The UK government’s entry guidance explains the initial business-visa distinction: sponsorship must come from a registered Myanmar company or registered Chamber of Commerce association, supported by a personally addressed invitation stating the purpose and duration and a company-registration copy. It says non-governmental organisations cannot sponsor that business route. An invitation for the original entry should therefore not be assumed to replace the company and director evidence required for a subsequent extension.

Confirm the sponsoring company and prepare the extension file

The eStay Notice requires an existing DICA-registered company and a director appearing in the Myanmar Companies Online directory. The requisition letter must use company letterhead and carry a listed director’s signature. Companies linked to ministries need the stated ministry recommendation; SMEs need a valid business licence and a State or Region officer’s recommendation supported by a field inspection and photographs. Use the Notice to establish which sponsor documents apply to the actual business.

The separate eStay FAQ lists the applicant’s passport biodata page, visa, latest entry stamp, company certificate and extract, Form C arrival report, relevant recommendation and any Foreigner Registration Certificate. It also gives a specific portrait standard: a recent colour photograph against white, with the face and shoulders visible and no spectacles. Prepare clear scans against this checklist before the director submits the file. A general business invitation cannot be assumed to contain all the information required for an in-country stay decision.

Three deadlines follow submission and approval

The Terms and Conditions describe consideration taking up to five working days from acknowledgement, excluding weekends and gazetted holidays. If officials request corrected or missing evidence, the complete and correct documents must be supplied within the stated total eight-office-working-day period or the application is rejected. Monitor the application email and the official status enquiry rather than regard the initial acknowledgement as the final decision.

After a pre-approval payment email, payment must be made within ten days. The passport must then receive the stay or re-entry stickers at the designated Yangon Stay Section within 14 working days of the successful-payment email. Missing either deadline forfeits the pre-approval. These are different triggers: the payment period runs from the payment notice, while the sticker period runs from payment confirmation. The service’s online character therefore does not eliminate the final passport stage. Confirm the office instructions before scheduling travel that would make collection impossible.

Fees, overstay limits and re-entry must be checked separately

The official FAQ lists USD62 for a three-month extension, USD114 for six months and USD217 for twelve months. Re-entry permission is separately priced at USD72 for single entry or USD217 for multiple entry. Payment is requested after approval. The FAQ also says a re-entry visa expires with the underlying stay permission, so it does not independently extend the period of residence.

The Notice says applicants more than ten days into an overstay cannot use this system, and its English and Myanmar wording differ at the exact ten-day boundary. That is not a safe grace period: apply before the existing permission expires and seek direct instructions if already late. Online charges exclude overstay fines and Foreigner Registration Certificate fees. The Notice provides an under-seven fee exemption subject to age evidence and the specified conditions; do not apply it to older dependants. The VisaWand editorial team edited and checked this guide. An individual approval, completed payment and issued passport stickers remain separate milestones.
