The September application window has already closed

Nauru citizens awaiting Australia Awards decisions for study in 2027 should retain their application records and seek country-office instructions before treating a scholarship application as an award. The official OASIS notice identifies a Naoero-only round opening on 1 September 2026 and closing on 30 September at 14:00 Australian Eastern Standard Time. As of this report, that advertised deadline has passed.

There is conflicting official web guidance: one DFAT country page says Naoero will not accept applications for the 2027 intake, while a separate DFAT publication provides a 2027 country profile and OASIS advertises the September round. The published profile identifies Semester 2 of 2027. VisaWand has not obtained direct clarification of this discrepancy. Existing applicants should ask the country office to confirm their application status; the conflicting page is not evidence that a submitted file has been cancelled, nor evidence that late applications are open.

Keep the country-specific interview records ready

The 2027 country profile requests citizenship evidence, an employment referee report carrying a seal, a CV, transcripts and completed-study certificates. Scans must be legible, in colour and grouped into appropriately named PDFs. It says document certification is required for those shortlisted for interview, rather than imposing that stage on every initial submission.

It describes assessment of academic competence, leadership and contribution to development in Naoero, with successful candidates to be notified in early 2027. English testing, counselling and placement follow through the country programme. Keep original records available and follow any actual interview invitation. The profile lists the Naoero office at AAN–NEP House, Boe District, with [email protected] for enquiries; no individual selection result was confirmed for this report.

University placement follows the scholarship selection process

DFAT’s scholarship FAQ says applicants do not need to contact Australian universities when applying for an Australia Awards Scholarship. If selected, country teams work with institutions on placement and admission. Applicants can contact institutions for general course information, but an independent conversation with a university should not be represented as an Australia Awards placement or funding decision.

The FAQ also explains that scholarship assessment is not rolling: applications are reviewed after closing, and submitting earlier within the window does not create an advantage. This matters for anyone awaiting news after September. A completed application is not proof of rejection merely because an immediate decision did not arrive. Equally, a saved draft should not be described as an award. Ask the country programme about the stage reached and retain the submitted application reference when requesting an update.

Understand which costs the award covers and its return condition

The general scholarship benefits page identifies full tuition, one return economy airfare by the most direct route, an establishment contribution and fortnightly contributions to basic living costs. It also includes a compulsory introductory academic programme. These are scholarship entitlements for recipients; they do not mean that someone awaiting selection already has funding to book travel or pay an institution.

Overseas Student Health Cover is for the award holder only and excludes pre-existing conditions. A family considering accompanying dependants should therefore establish their separate insurance and living arrangements instead of assuming everyone shares that cover. Recipients must sign a contract agreeing to scholarship conditions and leave Australia for at least two years after completion. Failure can produce a debt for the total accrued scholarship cost. Consider that return obligation before accepting an offer or presenting the scholarship as a route to immediate permanent migration.

A submitted scholarship file cannot be freely edited

DFAT’s application instructions distinguish a saved draft from a submitted application. Draft information and supporting documents can be updated before the relevant country deadline; once submitted, the application cannot be changed through the ordinary process. An applicant who discovers an error after September should therefore contact the country office for instructions rather than assume a new upload or duplicate application has corrected the record.

The instructions direct applicants to their country profile and the policy handbook for eligibility, selection and responsibilities. The handbook can be revised, so retain the version and correspondence relevant to the actual intake. Scholarship administration, university admission and Australian immigration permission are separate decisions. The reviewed resources do not confirm an individual visa outcome, current accommodation booking or permission to enter Australia. Wait for the programme’s placement and immigration instructions before making travel commitments based solely on a scholarship application.
