New students at the University of Cyprus need a second immigration file after arrival

The entry permit does not complete the residence procedure. Non-EU students should arrange the university’s after-arrival documents within its published seven-to-ten-day window.

Tourist admission is not the university’s student-entry procedure

Non-EU students beginning a degree at the University of Cyprus should plan both entry clearance and the separate residence procedure after arrival. The university’s immigration FAQ says applicants can start the entry-permit process after acceptance, when its support office provides the admission letter and procedural instructions. This current-rule guide concerns that institution’s undergraduate and postgraduate process, not every short course or exchange arrangement.

The FAQ specifically warns that entering as a tourist does not allow conversion to a student visa in Cyprus. It says a non-EU student using a valid European residence card for tourist admission must leave and return with a student entry permit to activate student status. Do not assume a tourist exemption or European card completes the university’s admission route. The support office recommends waiting for the visa or Blue Slip before booking the flight.

Prepare the entry file and identify the correct payment category

The university’s entry-permit page requires the completed MEDU2/MEDUM2 personal details and declaration, certified passport evidence, admission evidence and the applicable supporting records. Its passport instruction specifies coverage for the expected study duration and at least two years. A minor also needs parental authorisation for the intended stay. Criminal-record evidence is considered valid for six months and the listed medical examinations for four months.

The page publishes 140 euros for registration and entry-visa charges through JCC Smart, reduced to 70 euros where an Alien Registration Certificate was previously obtained. It separately requires verification payment for relevant non-Hague-country documents. Financial evidence normally demonstrates 7,000 euros for tuition and living costs, reduced to 5,000 with a scholarship of at least 50 percent and waived for a full scholarship. A parent sponsoring the student needs the specified bank letter and birth record. These entry charges exclude the later residence-card application and other study costs. Do not post originals until the support office confirms their attestation is correct.

Bring the after-arrival evidence to the university promptly

The university’s residence page requires after-arrival documents at its International Students and Staff Office within seven to ten days of entry. The office stamps them and arranges the Migration Department biometric appointment. Students must use that appointment; airport admission does not complete the procedure.

The checklist includes the passport arrival stamp, original Blue Slip, local medical-examination results, the specified health insurance, a Cyprus bank confirmation showing at least 800 euros and the rental agreement or title evidence. It quotes a 55-euro application charge. The 800-euro local bank evidence is distinct from the entry application’s financial threshold. The page also describes additional rental signatures needed by banks, so ask which formality serves immigration and which serves account opening. The published approximate four-month card process is not a reason to postpone submitting the initial documents.

Resolve the different published arrival deadlines with the receiving office

The European Commission’s Cyprus student guide states that a visa or entry permit is needed before travel and temporary residence permission after arrival. Its procedure table contains both a ten-day instruction and a one-week instruction for obtaining the temporary permit. Those descriptions also differ from the university’s seven-to-ten-day document-submission window. The pages do not establish that the student must receive the finished card within a week, especially alongside the university’s longer production estimate.

Act promptly through the university and ask which deadline applies to lodging the file and which appointment the office will arrange. The Commission lists financial resources, health insurance, criminal-record evidence and passport evidence, with police registration and medical checks after arrival. It describes renewable one-year permits and renewal one month before expiry. Those renewal instructions are separate from the first-arrival file; they do not extend a current permission automatically. Keep the issued permit’s expiry and any later renewal deadline in the calendar, while treating the conflicting arrival wording as a question for the university and Migration Department.
