The temporary arrangement runs only through this year

North Macedonia’s Foreign Ministry confirms a temporary short-visit visa exemption for third-country travellers holding specified valid multiple-entry British, American or Canadian visas. The decision runs from 1 January through 31 December 2026. This current guide explains the existing arrangement for travel planning; it does not present the annual decision as a new October visa waiver.

The ministry’s announcement limits a visit under this arrangement to fifteen days and requires the underlying visa to remain valid five days beyond the planned stay. Its wording refers to the visa being inserted in the passport. Travellers should therefore check the actual document and intended dates, rather than assume any permission associated with one of those countries qualifies. The reviewed announcement does not itself resolve every case involving exclusively electronic evidence.

Other visa-free categories have their own conditions

The separate entry-requirements page says EU nationals and nationals of Schengen Agreement signatory countries do not require a visa and may enter with a valid national identity card. That nationality rule is distinct from an exemption for a third-country national holding a foreign visa or residence permit.

The page also recognises temporary or permanent residence in an EU or Schengen country for visits of no more than fifteen days per entry, within a total of ninety days in any 180-day period. A multiple-entry Schengen C visa is another stated basis, with the five-day validity margin and the same fifteen-day-per-entry limit. Compare the exact document with its corresponding rule; do not substitute the general ninety-day total for the shorter limit applying to one visit.

For an illustrative traveller planning twenty days using a qualifying third-country visa, the problem is the intended visit length even if the foreign visa remains valid for months. The next action is to establish an appropriate North Macedonian permission or revise the itinerary before departure, rather than assume the unused validity extends the fifteen-day exemption.

Applicants outside an exemption need the consular procedure

The Foreign Ministry’s visa application procedure directs applicants to the competent resident or non-resident diplomatic mission. It gives a filing window of no earlier than six months and at least fifteen days before the intended trip. Applications are normally submitted personally, with specified limited proxy exceptions; a parent or guardian submits a minor’s application in person.

Use this procedure page to establish where and when to apply if the passport, foreign permission or planned duration fails an exemption condition. The minimum advance filing period is not a promise that every case will be completed before the traveller’s preferred departure. An unresolved eligibility enquiry should not be treated as a visa approval or an extension of the annual arrangement beyond December.

Prepare evidence and the correct short-stay fee

The ministry’s visa-types page lists the C visa documents, including the travel document, insurance, purpose evidence such as the appropriate guarantee or invitation, sufficient funds, photograph and completed application. It lists EUR 60 for a short-stay or transit visa and EUR 35 for children aged six to twelve. Confirm any applicable exception and local payment arrangements with the receiving mission.

The separate procedure page adds passport specifications: issuance within the previous ten years, at least two blank pages and validity extending at least three months beyond the visa. It requires insurance for the full stay and evidence covering accommodation, maintenance, transport and the intention to leave. Where a host assumes accommodation and costs, use the guarantee instructions, including the required certification, rather than a casual invitation message.

Resolve purpose and document questions before travel

The visa-types guidance treats work, study, family reunion and other longer-stay purposes through the relevant residence and D visa process. A short-visit exemption should not be read as general permission to take up employment or remain for an unrelated purpose. Identify that purpose before choosing the application category.

The practical final check is the passport nationality, precise foreign document, permitted visit length, five-day margin where applicable and the 31 December end date of the temporary decision. Where the official text does not explain the format of the evidence held, obtain consular confirmation before travelling. The reviewed resources do not announce a 2027 renewal or guarantee admission in an individual case.
