Check the family category and the sponsor’s valid residence

Oman’s online visa instructions require applicants to be in the Sultanate when renewing residence permission. Families planning travel should check renewal arrangements before departure. These are existing requirements, checked on 2 November 2026.

For an initial application, Gov.om’s Joining Relatives Visa service covers a husband, wife and children under twenty-one joining a foreign resident. It requires the applicant’s photograph and passport, the sponsor’s passport and resident card, relationship evidence and an employer letter accepting responsibility. Both the applicant’s passport and the worker’s residence must be valid. The published visa charge is OMR30. Use that current service checklist to prepare the family file; a marriage or birth certificate alone is not the whole application. The service’s displayed short completion interval should not be interpreted as a guaranteed immigration decision time.

Resolve the salary and document requirements before filing

The Royal Oman Police’s Family Joining Visa page provides additional conditions not repeated on the shorter Gov.om checklist. It describes qualifying employment, suitable rented housing and a monthly salary of at least OMR600. Because the May 2026 government service page does not state a salary threshold, applicants should confirm the conditions applying to their case with ROP before relying on a different figure supplied by an intermediary. Absence of the figure on the shorter page does not establish that the condition has been removed.

The ROP checklist requests employment and salary evidence or at least six months of salary-transfer statements, an authenticated marriage certificate and accommodation evidence. Its medical requirement identifies adults from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Syria and Nepal. Use the named checklist to verify the accepted examination and documents. It also describes separate marriage-validation evidence for an Omani citizen’s foreign wife. That case should not be treated as identical to an expatriate employee sponsoring relatives.

Complete the renewal process rather than stopping at the online form

The ROP Online Visa Application Service describes separate submission stages: complete the electronic form, pay online for renewal, print it and take it with supporting records to the visa office. A saved form does not complete every required step.

Its instructions reject passport-validity extensions for visa purposes and restrict family-joining applications to children under twenty-one. Check the actual document and category before renewing. ROP retains the decision, and an entry visa does not guarantee admission. Follow the individual permission’s dates; the page does not establish an automatic extension for an incomplete application.

Identify who makes the renewal request

Gov.om publishes a separate Renew Family Visa service for local employers renewing permission for relatives of Omani citizens or foreign residents. Its description places the request under the employer’s responsibility. This is a different entry from the initial Joining Relatives Visa service.

Use that renewal resource to identify the responsible service and ask the sponsor or employer which current submission channel applies. Do not assume that selecting a personal-account option for a new family application completes the employer’s renewal transaction. Confirm the requested service and any outstanding evidence before the existing permission expires.

Arrange the residence card separately after entry

The ROP first-time residence-card resource describes a separate civil-status procedure. It states a thirty-day period from entry for obtaining the card and requires personal attendance with the applicable documents. Its general checklist includes the original passport and the residence-card application; employment cases have further labour and medical evidence. Families should ask ROP how the documentation and age rules apply to each accompanying child instead of treating the employed sponsor’s checklist as identical for every dependant.

Use that resource to arrange the card stage after the family’s immigration permission is issued. The OMR30 joining-visa charge should not be assumed to include every card, attestation, medical or service cost. Confirm the current card tariff and category before payment. An illustrative household should track three separate records: the sponsor’s residence expiry, each relative’s visa or residence permission, and the individual card. Renewing one record does not by itself demonstrate that all other family documents have been renewed. Keep the approvals and ask the responsible office about any mismatch before the relevant permission expires.
