Identify the medical residence category before starting RaDEX

Argentina publishes separate medical-treatment procedures for transitory residence and temporary residence. Patients should identify the appropriate category before arranging an immigration application around a hospital appointment. This guide explains existing public procedures; it does not announce a new medical visa or establish that a tourist admission automatically covers a course of treatment.

The transitory service is described as a short-term route, although its published maximum is one year, renewable. It requires evidence of regular entry, address and identity. Foreign criminal-record evidence is specified for applicants over sixteen where the permission would exceed six months, covering countries of residence exceeding one year during the last three years. The page extends the route to direct relatives, a legal representative or guardian where a minor, disabled patient or seriously ill person needs accompaniment. That condition should be documented; it is not an unrestricted permission for every travelling companion.

Arrange clinical evidence for the temporary route

The temporary medical-residence service addresses treatment whose complexity or risk justifies remaining in Argentina. It publishes a one-year permission, renewable. The clinical history must identify the condition and treatment at an Argentine healthcare establishment. For a public hospital, the institution’s director signs; for a private institution or individual doctor, the professional’s signature requires certification through the Argentine health ministry.

This route’s checklist also requires identity, address, regular entry and foreign criminal-record evidence for applicants over sixteen. The Argentine criminal-record step is incorporated into RaDEX rather than obtained separately. Register through the link on the official service page, complete the request, pay the applicable charges and upload the required evidence; an in-person appointment follows if the requirements for formalising the request are met. The service page’s cost heading contains no displayed amount, so it does not establish an all-inclusive residence price.

Apply the Guayaquil visa checklist only within its jurisdiction

The Guayaquil consulate’s medical-visa page, updated 8 January 2026, is a consular procedure for patients and companions applying from its Ecuadorian jurisdiction. It requires a passport valid for at least six months on entry, a blank page, the current visa form, three four-centimetre-square photographs and proof of local address. It also identifies hospital invitations, authorisation and international referral documents, including transplant-related cases. Applicants should ask which of those documents fits their treatment rather than applying a transplant checklist indiscriminately.

The consulate lists US$300 as the migration charge and US$250 as the visa charge, totalling US$550. It specifies international credit card for the former and a bank deposit instruction supplied at interview for the latter; cash and bank transfers are not accepted. This is not a nationwide RaDEX price. The page advises buying tickets only after visa delivery and arranging international health insurance once the visa and definite travel date are available. Payment does not guarantee approval.

Use a fresh treatment statement when seeking an extension

For an existing temporary medical resident, the dedicated extension service asks for a clinical history signed by the hospital or private clinic director that states how long treatment will last and confirms that it continues. A private institution’s signature requires health-ministry legalisation. An original appointment letter showing only that treatment once began does not answer those specific continuation questions.

The extension checklist includes a valid identity document, address evidence and the Argentine criminal-record step through RaDEX. Foreign documents need the applicable legalisation or apostille; documents in another language require a Spanish translation by the specified public translator and professional-college legalisation. The page describes a one-year extension and an online application followed by an appointment, but supplies no exact filing window or guaranteed decision time. Check the expiry shown on your current permission and seek instructions before it lapses. Continued medical care alone should not be assumed to extend immigration permission.

Carry evidence for personal medicines separately

The Argentine consulate in Los Angeles states that travellers may bring medication for personal consumption, but immigration authorities may ask to see the prescription and treatment indicated by a doctor. Quantities should be proportionate to the stay. Keep those documents available during the journey rather than assuming the residence application’s clinical uploads will be available to an inspecting officer.

This medicines guidance does not set a universal numerical allowance or confirm an exemption for every controlled medicine. Use its linked customs resource for further product-specific checks. Medicine documentation, hospital acceptance and immigration permission serve different purposes; completing one of them does not establish that the others have been satisfied.
