Short courses and resident study use different procedures
Peru’s Superintendence of Migration publishes distinct formation procedures for short study and longer resident study. This is current guidance about existing routes, not a new November student programme. Foreign applicants should establish the course duration and their present immigration status before choosing a service: the label student does not identify one universal permission or fee.
The formation-temporary service describes a 90-day permission extendable once for the same period. Its checklist includes the change-of-status form, payment, passport or relevant protocol identity document, background and solvency declarations and academic evidence. The precise supporting letter depends on whether the activity is ordinary education, workplace training or an exchange. An Interpol exchange document dated within six months is listed, with minors exempt. The service displays S/22.20 under payment code 07568. Use this named temporary-formation resource to check the complete requirements rather than borrowing documents from an unrelated employment route.
Formation residence requires evidence covering the longer course
The separate formation-resident change procedure describes permission for up to 365 days, renewable for the same period, for recognised education and other qualifying training. Its listed academic evidence must be no older than 30 calendar days and establish a duration of at least one year. An applicant already in Peru should ask the receiving institution for the appropriate enrolment, training or exchange letter before submitting the file.
The resident checklist also includes a signed application, valid travel document, receipt, financial-support declaration and overseas background evidence covering the specified five-year period. It lists an Interpol document with a six-month issuance limit, exempting minors, and Spanish translation requirements. The displayed charge is S/161.40 using code 07568; treaty arrangements can alter applicable fees or facilities. The page was last changed in April 2024, so verify the amount presented by the official payment service before paying. It describes a maximum 30-working-day evaluation, not guaranteed approval.
Paid work requires a separate assessment
Migration’s extraordinary-work-permit service tells student-status holders seeking temporary work to obtain the corresponding permission. It describes professional practice or holiday work for students, and requires the applicant to be in Peru with the appropriate current temporary card or valid resident documentation. Do not treat academic admission, an employer’s offer or a pending status application as evidence that paid work has already been authorised.
The service lists an authorisations-and-permissions form, receipt details and employment documentation approved by the labour authority, with requirements differing between temporary-card holders and formation residents. It displays S/19.10 under code 07562 and directs applicants to select the work-permission option in the Migration Digital Agency, upload PDFs and monitor the electronic mailbox. Its introductory wording describes a maximum 60-day temporary work period. Confirm the period authorised in the actual decision; this article does not establish an unrestricted right to work throughout an academic year.
Existing formation residents should prepare renewal before expiry
The formation-residence extension page, updated on 23 January 2026, directs students to apply 30 days before their residence expires while physically in Peru. It requests a renewal form, receipt, identity or travel-document copy, recognised-institution enrolment evidence, an updated consolidated record of courses and grades demonstrating continuing study, and a solvency declaration. Ask the academic office for both enrolment and the course record: they perform different evidential functions.
The published renewal charge is S/20.20 using code 07566. After payment, the instructions direct the applicant to the residence-extension option, with PDF attachments, then to the electronic mailbox for observations and the result. The page describes a five-working-day response and downloading the new document showing the authorised period. Keep that decision; an old card or successful payment does not by itself demonstrate the new residence dates.
Older representation language requires clarification
Some service pages still describe personal filing without an authorised representative. Migration’s 6 October 2025 Communiqué 15-2025 separately reports an Indecopi ruling against that restriction for formation-resident changes, stating that effectiveness follows publication of the extract in El Peruano. The reviewed notice alone does not establish that publication date. Anyone requiring representation should ask Migration for the implemented procedure and applicable ruling rather than assume that every old checklist statement, or every representation option, remains settled.
