New planning guidance does not establish a new visa

Saint Lucia’s Tourism Authority published a remote-work planning guide on 28 October 2026, encouraging prospective longer-stay travellers to verify their immigration position before booking. The guide discusses practical arrangements for working from the island, but does not announce a new visa category, a new exemption from work-permit requirements or an automatic entitlement to a prolonged stay. This distinction matters for visitors attracted by the promotion who intend to remain beyond an ordinary holiday.

Use the dated tourism guide to understand what was actually published yesterday. Its entry section directs readers to current visa requirements and official confirmation for longer stays. A reader should therefore establish three things separately: whether a visa is needed before travel, how long admission permits them to remain, and whether the proposed work is authorised. A favourable answer to one does not settle the others.

Check nationality and the permission recorded on arrival

The Department of External Affairs’ visiting guidance describes a maximum initial visitor admission of six weeks and requires a return ticket. It also identifies a specific exemption for otherwise visa-required visitors arriving on cruises docking for less than 24 hours. That narrowly described cruise exception should not be carried over to a flight arrival or a longer independent stay.

The UK government’s entry advice confirms visa-free visits for full British-citizen passport holders and tells them to obtain a passport stamp, which officials use to check permitted stay. It directs people seeking more time to the Immigration Department in Castries and warns against overstaying or working without a work permit. British visitors should check their actual admission record rather than calculating a departure date solely from accommodation bookings. These passport-specific British arrangements do not establish the position of every other nationality.

For visa-required travellers, prepare before departure

The government’s non-immigrant visa service page advises submission to Immigration at least two weeks before travel, with a stated processing time of five working days. Its listed charges are EC$125 for single entry within three months and EC$190 for multiple entries over one year. Those entry-validity descriptions should not be treated as permission to remain continuously for three months or a year.

That service checklist requests two certified passport photographs, a passport, a return ticket, itinerary, accommodation evidence and an invitation where applicable. Its passport wording refers to six months, whereas the UK’s British-visitor guidance requires validity beyond planned departure. Visa applicants should confirm the requirement applicable to their own application with the visa office. The service page mentions possible airport applications in some circumstances, but expressly warns of refusal; it is not a reliable substitute for advance clearance.

Longer stays require an extension file and a budget

The Department of External Affairs’ extension checklist lists a first application photograph, valid passport, return ticket, host identification and a rental receipt where relevant. It identifies return-ticket exemptions for property holders and people with Saint Lucian parentage. Evidence of parentage, marriage to a Saint Lucian, property ownership or yacht registration is specified for the corresponding cases. Use this checklist to assemble the relevant file instead of assuming every exception applies to every visitor.

The same resource lists XCD$2 for the application form and XCD$200 per thirty days for the extension, with five working days’ processing and morning operating hours. It also publishes a sex-specific fee waiver for a foreign female spouse; applicants relying on it should confirm its present application with Immigration. Submit before current permission expires and allow for processing. No reviewed source establishes that filing alone automatically extends permission or authorises remote employment.

Complete the arrival declaration in the current window

The tourism authority’s electronic-entry guidance is explicitly for air arrivals. It provides for one form per family, an emailed QR code and submission within the three days before travel; completion at the airport using free Wi-Fi is also described. Follow its official form link and retain the QR code for presentation. This declaration facilitates border processing and does not replace a required visa or extension decision.

For an illustrative eight-week stay, the practical issue is the gap beyond the admission recorded at entry, not whether the accommodation accepts an eight-week reservation. Obtain the extension requirements and a clear answer on the intended work before committing. The October planning publication supplies no confirmed new work exemption, extension guarantee or blanket nationality waiver; those uncertainties require an immigration decision rather than an assumption based on promotional language.
