Saint Vincent visitor extensions require a separate application and monthly cash fee

Check the permission actually granted on arrival

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines publishes a visitor-extension procedure through its Ministry of National Security. This is a current guide to existing arrangements, rather than an announcement of a new immigration concession. The ministry says visitors seeking additional time may apply in Kingstown or at the immigration ports of Bequia, Mustique, Canouan and Union Island. Its published charge is EC$75 in cash for each month or part of a month. Travellers should establish their permitted departure date before arranging a longer stay.

The ministry’s Visitors’ Permits guidance lists six-month entry permissions for CARICOM, United Kingdom, Schengen-country and United States nationals, three months for other international visitors, and indefinite admission for OECS nationals. These categories do not establish what a particular traveller has actually received. Check the passport endorsement and ask Immigration to resolve an unclear or shorter permission; a hotel reservation extending beyond that date does not amend it.

Use the extension forms, not an entry-visa application

The ministry’s Forms directory separately provides an Application Form For Extension Of Stay and a Sponsorship Form For Extension of Visitors Permit. It also lists an entry-visa application and a Caribbean Community skills-certification application. These are different administrative purposes. Someone already admitted who wants additional visitor time should obtain the extension paperwork and ask whether sponsorship documentation is required for their circumstances, rather than assume that an entry-visa form renews their stay.

The directory identifies the ministry on Melville Street, Kingstown, and gives telephone (784) 457-1426, extension 4741. Use that official contact to confirm the current supporting-document checklist, the relevant counter and whether the sponsor must attend. The available directory does not establish a complete documentary checklist or a guaranteed decision time. Keep the existing passport permission available when describing the request. Confirm requirements before travelling between islands solely to lodge an application.

British and Canadian guidance need to be read by nationality

For full British citizen passports, the United Kingdom’s entry-requirements page describes visa-free visits and six months granted on entry. It confirms that a longer stay requires an application and payment to the Immigration Department, and that overstaying or working without a permit is unlawful. British travellers should use this resource to check their passport requirement as well: the guidance specifies validity extending at least six months beyond arrival.

Canada’s official destination advice, by contrast, states that Canadian tourist, business and student visits are visa-exempt for up to 30 days, with extensions up to one year at Immigration’s discretion. It also says a regular Canadian passport must cover the stay and that officials may request an onward ticket and sufficient funds. The 30-day description differs from the Vincentian ministry’s broader three-month category. Canadian travellers should obtain a nationality-specific answer from Immigration instead of selecting the more generous statement. Neither published ceiling is an assurance that a full-year extension will be approved. Canada also distinguishes regular passports from temporary and emergency travel documents, for which different conditions may apply. Holders of those documents should establish acceptance before buying a connecting itinerary, rather than transfer the ordinary-passport advice to a replacement document.

Resolve visitor time before changing the purpose of the stay

The Vincentian guidance directs non-nationals seeking residence or employment to obtain permission through the Prime Minister’s Office. An ordinary visitor extension should therefore not be treated as approval to begin a job. The British entry guide independently warns that working without a permit is illegal: an employer’s willingness to offer a position does not itself establish immigration permission.

No universal advance filing interval or automatic protection while an extension is pending is established by the resources reviewed. Contact Immigration before the existing permission expires, confirm the amount payable for the requested period and obtain the resulting decision or endorsement. An illustrative visitor requesting only part of an additional month should budget for the ministry’s stated whole monthly charge, rather than calculate a daily rate. The VisaWand editorial team edited and checked this procedural reporting; individual decisions remain with the Vincentian authorities.
