Slovakia national visas: November RegVIS and employer appointment routes

Deadline follow-up: RegVIS study and research bookings begin in November, while employers must follow their embassy’s separate registration rules. Institutional registration is not a visa approval.

RegVIS first phase reaches its November booking stage

Slovakia’s Foreign Ministry says appointments under the first phase of its RegVIS visa-registration portal become available for booking from 1 November 2026. The phase launched on 1 October for Slovak universities and research institutions supporting international students and researchers. This is a follow-up to the approaching booking stage, not a claim that all national-visa applicants can now register directly through the new system.

The Ministry’s announcement says registered institutions submit applicant lists, which are checked for formal correctness and duplicates. Registration rounds close when capacity is reached or their deadline passes. Accepted applicants can then book submission appointments at the relevant visa application centre. The later extension to Slovak employers was described as a future phase over the coming months; the announcement does not give a universal employer launch date.

Students should wait for their institution’s confirmation

The Slovak embassy in Bangkok’s study-and-research instructions explain the distinction between institutional registration and an actual appointment. RegVIS registration arranges capacity for the relevant month rather than securing a specific submission time. After acceptance in a registration round, the institution tells the applicant when booking at BLS International or VFS Global is possible.

Use those study instructions to coordinate with the admitting institution and the responsible embassy. An admission letter, inclusion on an institutional list and a confirmed visa-centre appointment are different records. None is the visa itself. The Bangkok instructions also warn that payments to intermediaries promising appointments do not guarantee a visa or provide priority over other applicants.

Employers need the registration rules for the responsible post

New Delhi’s employment national-visa page, updated on 9 October, lists 10 November as the next appointment-request date, with appointments allocated for December 2026 and January 2027. Only a Slovak employer with a registered Slovak office and company identification number may request the appointment. Individual applicants, foreign agencies and recruitment intermediaries cannot substitute their own request.

The employer sends the completed designated spreadsheet to the embassy’s specified mailbox and awaits instructions. The embassy warns that repeated submission of the same request prevents processing and appointment allocation. Its page also distinguishes government-regulation routes from the ordinary employment appointment procedure. The next action is to use that employment page and its form, rather than assuming the education-focused RegVIS round replaces the employer request.

Visa documents and fees still depend on the legal purpose

Bangkok’s general national-visa page requires a valid travel document, colour photograph, purpose evidence and health insurance, with the full residence documentation where the visa supports a later residence application. It also requires resident applicants within its jurisdiction to demonstrate residence through a work or residence permit; a short- or long-stay visa is not accepted there as proof of residence. Check jurisdiction before travelling to that post.

The national visa fee categories are not interchangeable. The Ministry’s central visa information lists EUR90 for a visa connected with a residence-permit application, EUR50 for specified treaty or national-interest purposes and EUR15 for the relevant already-granted-residence category. Visa-centre service charges may be additional. Use the responsible embassy’s purpose-specific checklist to confirm the charge and supporting evidence; a university offer or employer invitation does not alone select the fee row.

Keep the preparation, submission and decision stages separate

The central visa information says payment arrangements depend on the mission and that a fee is not refunded simply because the visa is refused. Do not pay based only on a purported appointment confirmation from an intermediary. Confirm the official submission instructions and whether any applicable exemption covers the individual applicant.

Bangkok’s general guidance describes a thirty-calendar-day decision period, which should not be mistaken for a guaranteed interval from initial RegVIS registration or an employer’s booking request. Readers should identify their purpose, responsible post, valid residence jurisdiction, registration date and final document checklist before setting travel plans. Neither the portal announcement nor an appointment request establishes permission to enter Slovakia or begin the proposed work.
