Check the extension window before the card’s final month
Taiwan Employment Gold Card holders planning their next period of residence should act before the card enters its final month. The Gold Card Office’s extension tutorial, updated on 27 January 2026, says an unexpired-card extension can be submitted within four months before expiry, but no later than one month before expiry. It warns that the system blocks extensions during the final month. This is a current deadline explanation, not a newly announced November restriction.
The tutorial distinguishes extension of an unexpired card from reapplication after expiry. The latter uses the new-applicant or expired-card option. Applicants should check whether their professional field or the applicable criteria have changed, because previously submitted evidence may not transfer in those circumstances. The resource also warns that the platform has no save function for this process. Prepare the required information before starting and complete the submission sequence, rather than assuming an unfinished session preserves an application.
The residence fallback does not preserve the Gold Card’s open work rights
The official residency-extension FAQ identifies a different route for a holder who cannot simply extend the Gold Card: a job-seeking Alien Resident Certificate. Its application window begins three months before Gold Card expiry, and the stated maximum is six months followed by a further six months. The same guidance expressly says this job-seeking ARC does not permit work in Taiwan. It must not be sold or understood as an automatic continuation of the Gold Card’s open work permission.
The separate job-seeking ARC instructions list the original passport and Gold Card, a recent colour photograph and an NT$1,000 application fee for the service-centre procedure. They also identify the online platform option for an extension for other reasons. Hong Kong and Macao holders are directed by the residency-extension FAQ to their local National Immigration Agency service centre. A holder considering paid work during the fallback period should resolve the required employment permission before accepting that work, rather than relying on the former card.
Dependants have their own residence documents and expiry dates
The Gold Card Office’s family-extension FAQ says foreign spouses and children can apply to renew their ARCs after the principal’s Gold Card extension is completed, at an NIA service centre or through the dependent online platform. It also describes an employer-sponsored alternative: obtaining a work permit for the principal, then a standard ARC that can support dependent extensions while the Gold Card renewal proceeds. That is a sequence of applications, rather than a promise that every family can use it without meeting the relevant requirements.
The family checklist includes the original ARC, passport, proof supporting dependent residence, a compliant photograph, current-address evidence and the applicable fee based on duration. A letter of attorney is required where a representative attends. Keep each family member’s expiry date visible while arranging the principal’s application; a pending Gold Card extension should not be assumed to renew every dependent document automatically. Use the family FAQ to identify the sequence and the dependent platform to prepare the actual application.
Correct changed passport or address details through the information-change service
A separate official information-change FAQ explains how to update a Gold Card record through the online application menu. It lists passport-number and residential-address updates as free, while name or gender changes carry different charges. Address changes require supporting evidence such as a rental agreement or utility bill. The page tells holders needing a replacement after a personal-information change to apply within 30 days of the change.
This matters when renewal coincides with a move or new passport: the extension application, identity record and supporting residence documents should describe the same circumstances. Do not pay a name-change charge for a passport-number update merely because both involve a new passport. The FAQ specifies different fees for Hong Kong and Macao name or gender cases, so a general fee quoted to a foreign-national holder should not be assumed universal. Before submission, identify whether the required action is extension, job-seeking residence, dependent renewal or correction of personal information; each has its own official instructions and consequences.
