An online payment does not complete the residence-card process
Togo’s public-service residence-card instructions describe a mixed online and physical procedure for foreigners settling in the country. Applicants enter their information online, the national documentation directorate, DGDN, checks it, and the account receives either a correction request or payment notification. After payment, applicants download and print the form and attend DGDN with the supporting documents. This is current procedural guidance, not an announcement of a new November immigration route.
The service lists an indicative thirty-to-forty-five-day execution period and separate collection after a readiness notification. It publishes one-year fees of CFA100,000 for students and CFA200,000 for other applicants, and three-year fees of CFA250,000 for students and CFA500,000 for others. Use the public-service procedure to select the correct category and follow the payment notification, rather than regard a receipt as an issued card. The page expressly allows for regulatory changes to prices and validity; confirm the amount displayed for the actual application before paying.
Prepare identity, medical and purpose-specific records
DGDN’s residence-card page lists a home-country criminal record less than three months old for a first application, a non-conviction attestation, a recent medical certificate from a Togolese doctor and passport and current-visa copies. It also identifies fiscal records, social-security evidence for relevant employers or employees, and business-registration documents. Use its documentary instructions to establish the evidence required for the applicant’s actual activity, rather than submit only the form and passport.
There are differences to resolve between official descriptions. DGDN’s checklist mentions three photographs and passport validity exceeding six months, while the public-service instructions specify a recent photograph and passport validity extending three months beyond the requested card. The latter can imply a substantially longer remaining passport life for a multi-year application. Do not choose the shorter requirement simply because it is easier. Ask DGDN which current checklist governs the selected card and prepare the passport accordingly. The reviewed pages do not establish that missing records can always be supplied after a physical filing.
The legal six-month threshold is not an extension of a short visa
Togo’s 2022 foreigners law, published in the official gazette, requires a residence-card application after an uninterrupted six-month stay or successive stays exceeding six months in the same year. It distinguishes a visa, which does not confer a right to remunerated employment, from residence permission and the specific employer-requested entry authorisation for work. Use the legal text to understand those separate permissions; a longer-term residence threshold is not permission to ignore the expiry printed on a shorter visa.
The same law requires foreigners to produce the documents under which they are allowed to reside and circulate when the competent authorities request them. It also addresses late renewal and failure to seek a residence card. An applicant should therefore plan around the existing permission’s actual expiry, the documentary preparation period and the physical filing stage. The sources reviewed do not establish that an online correction request, a payment or a pending card application automatically extends an expiring visa or authorises work in every circumstance.
Check older service descriptions and any return journey separately
Another official public-service card description refers to residence beyond three months and a ten-year privileged card, while the more detailed online procedure lists a five-year privileged card. These pages should not be combined into a single invented entitlement. Use the detailed current application route and ask DGDN to confirm the applicable category, duration and underlying rule where the descriptions diverge. This is a practical uncertainty in the published guidance, not evidence that every applicant qualifies for the longest duration.
Togo Voyage’s FAQ says family members without their own residence or diplomatic card may need a visa before entry and can then begin the residence procedure. It also says a visa extension is requested at DGDN with the travel document and visa-reference record. Use that FAQ to assess each family member and any expiring entry permission separately from the card application. Keep copies of payment, submitted records and the authority’s replies, and collect the card only after notification. VisaWand editorial team edits and checks this guidance.
