Match the service to the immigration problem

Foreign nationals planning travel to Trinidad and Tobago or seeking more time after arrival should distinguish an entry visa, a student permit and a visitor extension. The government’s ttconnect service pages provide different procedures for these applications. This is a current practical guide to those published services, not an announcement of a newly introduced October visa or an expanded nationality exemption.

For full British-citizen passport holders, UK entry guidance describes visa-free visits up to ninety days, a passport valid for six months after arrival, and requirements for onward or return travel and sufficient funds. It also stresses obtaining a passport entry stamp because missing that record makes an extension difficult. Other passport holders should establish whether they need a visa before using the British visitor position as a model.

Prepare the online eVisa or student application before payment

The ttconnect visa-and-student-permit page describes a multiple-entry eVisa for eligible visa-required foreign nationals, with a non-refundable TTD400 application fee. Its key requirements include a passport with at least six months’ validity, a digital passport photograph in JPEG format, PDF supporting records, an email address and Visa or Mastercard payment. Online eligibility questions determine whether the applicant can use that service; the page is not evidence that every nationality is exempt or automatically eligible.

The same page distinguishes student applications for full-time programmes. It lists twelve months’ passport validity, an institutional acceptance letter, and an assessment form for renewals. The published student charges are TTD100 for CARICOM nationals and TTD200 for others, also non-refundable. Supporting PDFs may be up to 450KB each, with up to twenty files. Review the form and scans before submission because the page says paid applications cannot be modified. Keep the reference for the tracking service and await the emailed decision.

Older visa instructions describe another payment channel

A separately published Immigration visa-requirements PDF directs visa-required travellers to the nearest embassy, high commission or consulate, with an email route where that is unavailable. Its checklist includes a signed application and photograph, the full passport biographical page and relevant last entry or extension record. Applicants outside their citizenship country must provide evidence of their current immigration status, and non-English records need certified translation.

That PDF describes a local representative paying TTD200 for single entry or TTD400 for multiple entry at the Port of Spain office, followed by fourteen business days’ processing after payment. This differs from ttconnect’s fully online service description. Use the instructions for the channel actually assigned to the application, and confirm with Immigration if the routes overlap; do not combine one channel’s payment method with another’s file. A visa remains conditional on satisfying the examining border officer.

Request an extension appointment before the stamp expires

The Ministry of Homeland Security’s extension FAQ directs requests to the north, south or Tobago extensions email address and says to make an appointment at least two weeks before the entry or extension stamp expires. The initial request must include full name, local residential address, telephone number, passport biographical-page copy and last entry or extension certificate where applicable. Use that ministry resource to identify the appropriate regional inbox and the evidence needed to open the request.

The separate ttconnect extension page also asks for date of entry, current expiry and the reason for needing more time. It describes a confirmed appointment followed by in-person attendance with the passport and documents requested in the response. Return-flight information, accommodation and justification may be required, and approval is discretionary. Neither an email acknowledgement nor an appointment booking should be treated as a confirmed extension of lawful stay. The reviewed extension pages do not publish a definitive application charge, so obtain the amount from Immigration before attending.

Work permission has its own limits and application route

The government’s work-permit guidance describes an exemption for visits involving work of thirty days or less within a twelve-month period, and work permits for longer employment. It directs individual applications for one to nine people through TTBizLink and distinguishes group applications for ten or more. Use that resource to assess the employment procedure, rather than assuming that a multiple-entry visitor visa supplies work rights.

For an illustrative visitor nearing the end of a ninety-day admission who has also received a longer job offer, the immediate extension deadline and the employment application are separate tasks. Confirm the existing stamp, request the appropriate appointment and establish the work-permit position with the employer before starting any activity outside an exemption. No reviewed source guarantees an extension decision by the appointment date or establishes automatic status while an application is pending.
