Check the Treaty stream rather than the general Pacific ballot

Tuvaluans selected for Australia’s Falepili Mobility Pathway should check the deadline in their invitation immediately. Home Affairs’ Treaty stream visa guidance gives selected applicants sixty days to apply and says late applications cannot be accepted. This current report, checked on 29 October 2026, concerns that existing invitation process rather than a new ballot opening.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade describes Falepili as a permanent residence pathway allowing Tuvaluans to live, work and study in Australia. It sits under the Australia–Tuvalu treaty that entered into force on 28 August 2024. The Treaty stream is distinct from the general Pacific Engagement stream, despite both using subclass 192. Its eligibility and deadlines must therefore be checked separately.

The registration window has ended; monitor any continuing selection

Home Affairs’ Treaty stream country-status page shows the 2026–27 ballot opened on 1 May and closed on 1 June 2026. The published selection period runs from 9 June 2026 to 30 June 2027. New registrations cannot be submitted into the closed round.

The same page says further selections may be made later in the programme year to fill the allocation. A registration showing Received should not be mistaken for a visa invitation; Selected is the relevant notification status. The published selection end date also does not extend a sixty-day application deadline already issued to an individual.

For illustration, someone selected earlier in the programme cannot wait until June 2027 because selections may continue for others until then. Record the deadline in the actual selection letter and use its application link. The programme provides up to 280 places including partners and dependent children, rather than guaranteeing that number of principal applicants.

Confirm the nationality and birth connection before assembling the file

The Treaty stream visa page requires Tuvalu citizenship and a valid Tuvalu passport. The main applicant must have been born in Tuvalu or have a parent or grandparent born there. It excludes people who obtained Tuvalu citizenship through investment and those who are New Zealand citizens. Age is assessed against the requirement to be at least eighteen when the ballot opens.

These are substantive conditions, not matters resolved simply by receiving an email or paying a charge. Use the official visa page to check the complete criteria before committing to relocation. Selection provides an opportunity to apply; it does not waive the remaining health, character and identity assessment.

Prepare family, identity and consent records

The separate Treaty stream document checklist requests the current passport biodata page, birth certificate and relevant change-of-name evidence. It also identifies evidence connecting the primary applicant to Tuvalu through their own, a parent’s or a grandparent’s birth record. Check that names across generations can be followed through the documents.

For partners, the checklist includes marriage and evidence of a genuine ongoing relationship, such as joint accounts, leases and a shared address. For children, it identifies parental consent and identification from a non-travelling parent where required. Adult dependants have additional dependency-document requirements; do not assume a child remains automatically eligible simply because the family previously travelled together.

The checklist also asks for an explanation where a spouse or dependent children are not included. Resolve the intended family composition before submitting so the application accurately reflects who plans to migrate.

Budget the application and understand what is not required

Home Affairs’ January 2026 Treaty stream factsheet states that applicants do not need an Australian job offer or an English-language test. It lists AUD 25 for ballot registration, AUD 200 for the main visa applicant and AUD 50 for each additional family member. Confirm current payment instructions when lodging rather than treating the ballot payment as the complete charge.

The factsheet stresses that eligible family members travelling with the applicant must be included and generally cannot be added later, except a child born after application and before decision. Tell Home Affairs about a pregnancy as instructed. These provisions make a complete family review more useful than rushing only the principal applicant’s details.

Use official support and the eventual grant letter for travel

The factsheet directs participants to the Falepili Hub in Funafuti and official support services for assistance preparing for life in Australia. Those services can help with practical preparation even though employment is not a visa prerequisite. The absence of a job requirement does not eliminate the need to budget for housing and initial living costs.

After approval, follow the first-entry date stated in the visa grant notification. An invitation to apply, an application receipt and a granted visa are different stages. Keep the final grant letter available and check every accompanying family member’s permission before confirming travel.
