Identify the qualifying sponsor and family relationship
The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, ICP, requires a foreign family sponsor to hold valid residence. Its family category covers a spouse, sons under 25, unmarried daughters and children with special needs. Green Residence holders have an additional provision for first-degree relatives. This is current guidance checked on 2 November, rather than a new eligibility announcement.
ICP specifies monthly family income of at least AED 3,000 where the employer provides housing, or AED 4,000 otherwise, alongside suitable accommodation. Family residence cannot outlast the sponsor’s permit. Check that expiry before planning a long stay. The family-category checklist includes relationship evidence, salary and housing evidence, health insurance and passports valid for at least six months. Use ICP’s residence-issuance service, selecting the appropriate category, to confirm the document list and transaction charges for the actual case. A salary figure alone does not establish eligibility.
Prepare foreign marriage and birth records before submission
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains how foreign-issued certificates must be authenticated. Its FAQ says documents issued outside the UAE first need the issuing country’s foreign-ministry attestation, then attestation by the UAE embassy or consulate in that country, and finally UAE foreign-ministry attestation. The documents must be in Arabic or English, or accompanied by an official translation, and must not be laminated. A document missing the necessary earlier authentication may be rejected.
Marriage and birth certificates fall within the ministry’s individual-affairs documents, for which its published attestation charge is AED 150. That is an attestation charge, not the total price of obtaining family residence; other authorities’ charges, translation, delivery and immigration transactions are separate. The ministry says applications within the UAE are handled electronically through its website or app. Use the FAQ to establish the sequence and follow its service links for the application. If the issuing country has no UAE mission, contact the ministry for instructions rather than invent a substitute legalisation route. Start this work before scheduling the dependent’s journey around an assumed approval date.
Arrange the medical examination through the relevant local service
Dubai Health’s medical-fitness service explains the examination step for residence issuance or renewal in Dubai. It directs applicants to submit through the Salem portal and then visit a medical-fitness centre with a completed registration form, an original valid Emirates ID or passport, a recent photograph with a white background and an e-visa copy. Families should check the dependent’s applicable medical requirement with the immigration authority, rather than assume every child needs the same adult examination.
The published customer journey includes the health check, blood collection and chest X-ray; vaccinations apply only to certain professional categories. Results are notified by SMS or email, and the service page links a result-tracking tool and a pricing schedule. Use those links to choose the appropriate service and check its charge before booking. A medical appointment is not an immigration approval, and a result still has to be used within the residence process. This Dubai service should not be treated as the booking channel for every emirate. Applicants elsewhere should obtain instructions from the health service accepted for their residence transaction.
Distinguish the entry window from completing residence
ICP’s published English service guide describes an entry permit for completing residence without work, including family members. It separates two periods: entry permission is valid for 60 days from issue, and the authorised stay for completing residence requirements is 60 days. These are different clocks. A family should read the dates on the issued permission and arrange the remaining procedures within the permitted stay, rather than assume that an early application automatically extends it.
The guide requires a passport with more than six months’ validity, valid health insurance, an onward or departure ticket and payment of applicable fees and financial guarantees. The sponsor or head of family is identified as the applicant for this service. Use the guide to understand the entry stage, then check the current category-specific service and issued permit for the actual conditions. The guide’s tariff is not quoted here as a guaranteed current total. There is no single annual deadline for all family applications: the operative dates are the individual entry permission, permitted stay and sponsor’s residence expiry. Resolve discrepancies with ICP before those dates pass.
